Harristown, Naas South
Harristown ( ga, Baile Anraí) is a townland in County Kildare on the River Liffey downstream from Kilcullen, just north of Brannockstown in the Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish of Carnalway in the barony (Ireland), barony of Naas South. It is the site of a ancient borough, former borough and Manorialism, manor, and Harristown (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Harristown Borough was a borough constituency sending two MPs to the Irish House of Commons before the Acts of Union 1800. Harristown Common is a townland and former commonage north of Harristown proper and separated from it by the townlands of Dunnstown and Johnstown or Dunshane. Maurice Keating (1715–1777)
Maurice Bagenal St Leger Keatinge or Keating (c.1761–1835) was an Irish landowner, soldier and politician. He was the son of Maurice Keatinge of Narraghmore, County Kildare, an MP for Kildare in the Parliament of Ireland. Maurice jr. succeeded his father in 1777. He joined the British Army as a cornet in the 3rd Dragoons in 1778 and was successively promoted to lieutenant in the 22nd Dragoons (1779), captain (1781) and then major (1782). He retired to half-pay in 1783, but later resumed his army career and further promoted to lieutenant-colonel in the 85th Foot (1794). That same year he was made colonel of the newly raised Keating's Regiment of Foot (later the 107th Foot) before finally leaving the army in 1796. In 1790, he was elected an MP for County Kildare in the Irish Parliament until the union with Great Britain in 1801, after which he represented County Kildare in the UK Parliament (1801–02). Thomas Burgh (25 January 1754 – 1832) was an Irish politician who was MP for Harristown in the Irish House of Commons (1775–1776 and 1783–1790) and Athy (1776–1783). Edward Sandford (politician)
Edward Albert Sandford (22 October 1910 – 13 May 1995) was an English footballer who played as an inside forward. During his professional career from 1930 to 1943 he represented West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Morris Commercial and the England national football team. Career Sandford was born in Handsworth, Birmingham. As a youth he played football for Tantany Athletic, Overend Wesley, Birmingham Carriage Works F.C. and Smethwick Highfield. In October 1929, while still an amateur, he joined West Bromwich Albion, the club that his uncle Abe Jones had represented between 1896 and 1901. Sandford turned professional in May 1930 and scored on his senior debut in November of the same year when Albion beat Preston North End 3–2 in a Division Two match. During his first season, he was part of the Albion side that won promotion to the First Division and that also beat Birmingham 2–1 in the 1931 FA Cup Final.
