Harringworth railway station was a railway station near Harringworth, Northamptonshire. It was on the Oakham to Kettering Line of the Midland Railway, at at the south end of Welland Viaduct. The former signal box which is a listed structure has been preserved by the Northampton & Lamport Railway and is currently stored at Pitsford and Brampton railway station, Pitsford and Brampton station. Midland Railway
The Midland Railway (MR) was a railway company in the United Kingdom from 1844. The Midland was one of the largest railway companies in Britain in the early 20th century, and the largest employer in Derby, where it had its headquarters. It amalgamated with several other railways to create the London, Midland and Scottish Railway at grouping in 1922. The Midland had a large network of lines emanating from Derby, stretching to London St Pancras, Manchester, Carlisle, Birmingham, and the South West. It expanded as much through acquisitions as by building its own lines. It also operated ships from Heysham in Lancashire to Douglas and Belfast. Harringworth
Harringworth is a village and civil parish in North Northamptonshire, England. It is located close to the border with Rutland, on the southern bank of the River Welland, and around north of Corby. At the 2001 Census, the population of the parish was 247, falling to 241 at the 2011 Census. The area is dominated by the Welland Viaduct (known locally as the Harringworth Viaduct) that gracefully crosses the Welland and its flood plain immediately to the west of the village. Welland Viaduct
Welland Viaduct, Harringworth Viaduct or Seaton Viaduct, crosses the valley of the River Welland between Harringworth in Northamptonshire and Seaton in Rutland, England. The viaduct is long and has 82 arches, each with a span. It is the longest masonry viaduct across a valley in the United Kingdom. Built by the contractor Lucas and Aird, a total of 30 million bricks were used in the viaduct's construction. Completed during 1878, it has since become a Grade II listed building. Pitsford and Brampton railway station is a railway station serving the villages of Pitsford and Chapel Brampton in Northamptonshire, England. The station was once an intermediate stop on the Northampton-Market Harborough railway line, which closed in 1981. The station has now been revived as the headquarters of a heritage railway called the Northampton & Lamport Railway. History The London and North Western Railway originally favoured a site close to where the line crossed the road to Welford, which later became Boughton level crossing. The people of Boughton made representations to the company to try to ensure that it was built there. Manton railway station or Manton Junction is a former railway station serving the villages of Manton and Wing in the county of Rutland.
