Tom Harkin
Thomas Richard Harkin (born November 19, 1939) is an American lawyer, author, and politician who served as a United States senator from Iowa from 1985 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously was the U.S. representative for Iowa's 5th congressional district from 1975 to 1985. He is the longest-serving senator to spend his whole tenure as a state's junior senator. Born in Cumming, Iowa, Harkin graduated from Iowa State University and The Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law. He served in the United States Navy as an active-duty jet pilot (1962–1967). After serving as a congressional aide for several years, he made two runs for the U.S. House of Representatives, losing in 1972 but winning in 1974. He went on to serve five terms in the House. Terry Harkin
John Terence Harkin (born 14 September 1941) is a Northern Irish former professional footballer who played as a forward. He scored 125 goals in 260 league games in nine seasons in the Football League. He also scored 66 goals in 142 games in the League of Ireland, and scored five goals in 11 North American Soccer League games. At international level, he made five appearances scoring two goals for the Northern Ireland national team. He began his career with Derry City and Coleraine, before winning a £2,000 move to Port Vale in September 1962. He was sold on to Crewe Alexandra for £3,000 in June 1964, and scored a club record 35 goals in 1964–65. He moved on to Cardiff City in August 1965, before switching to Notts County the following year. Maurice "Mo" Harkin (born 16 August 1979 in Derry, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays for Egham Town as a midfielder. Harkin has played international football for Northern Ireland at both youth and under-20 level. Marian Harkin
Marian Harkin (born 26 November 1953) is an Irish Independent politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Sligo–Leitrim constituency since the 2020 general election, and previously from 2002 to 2007. She previously served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2004 to 2019. Early and family life Harkin was born in Ballintogher, County Sligo, in 1953. She studied at University College Dublin, where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree in geology. She worked as a teacher of mathematics in a secondary school in Sligo for 23 years, before entering into politics. Ruth Harkin (née Raduenz; born 1944) is an American attorney who served as county attorney of Story County, Iowa, one of the first female prosecutors elected in the United States. Early life and education Harkin was born in Vesta, Minnesota on August 27, 1944. Ruairí Harkin (born 11 October 1989) is a former footballer who played as a central midfielder. Club career Youth Harkin began his career at a very young age with Don Boscos. Throughout his career with Don Bosco's, Harkin made several appearances for the Derry and District League Select in the Foyle Cup and also County Londonderry in the Milk Cup. Having turned down opportunities to sign for a number of English clubs, such as Blackburn Rovers, in order to finish his GCSE exams at St. Columb's College, he eventually signed for Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2006. Bryan Harkin (born October 29, 1980 in Derry) is a Northern Irish soccer player who plays for Crystal Palace Baltimore in the USSF Second Division. Career College and amateur Harkin played college soccer at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut from 1999-2002. In 2000, he set the Stags' single season assist record with 9 while helping lead the team to a No. 15 national ranking, and in 2002 he was selected as a Regional All-American by the NSCAA. Allana Harkin (born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian comedian, actress, and playwright. Harkin wrote the comedy play ''Real Estate'', which premiered at Theatre Collingwood and later became very successful at Theatre Aquarius. Harkin's General Store
Harkin's General Store is all that remains of West Newton, in Nicollet County, Minnesota, United States. Alexander Harkin opened the store as combination general store and post office in 1867 in the growing town of West Newton. The town fell into decline after four years of locust swarms devastated southern Minnesota, and the railroad extended away from West Newton. The store closed in 1901.
