Harishchandra (1955 Film)
''Harishchandra'' ( ml, ഹരിശ്ചന്ദ്ര) is a 1955 Malayalam film produced by P. Subramaniam and directed by Anthony Mithradas. The film was based on the legend of King Harishchandra, recounted in the ''Ramayana'' and the ''Mahabharata''. Starring Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, Miss Kumari, Master Hari, G. K. Pillai, Jose Prakash and T. S. Muthiah in major roles, it features cinematography by N. S. Mani and music by Brother Lakshmanan. ''Harishchandra'' was heavily inspired by ''Raja Harishchandra'' (1913, Hindi), which was the first film adaptation of the legend. The film also borrows inspiration from ''Satya Harishchandra'' (1943, Kannada) as well as ''Harishchandra'' (1945, Tamil). Several scenes from these movies were directly reused in ''Harishchandra''. Antony Mitradas
Antony Mitradas (3 November 1913 – 20 February 2017) was an Indian film director who directed films in three languages: Tamil, Malayalam and Sinhalese. Early life Mitradas was born in Madurai on 3 November 1913. He did his B.A. Statistics at American College, Madurai. His passion for film direction took him to Calcutta, and he enrolled in an institute run by Mr. Balchandani. There the noted director Ellis R. Dungan had come to deliver a guest lecture. Dungan was much impressed by Mitradas and recommended him to T. R. Sundaram of Modern Theatres, Salem. Thus he got the opportunity to direct his first film '' Dayalan'' starring P. U. Chinnappa in 1941, as soon as he finished his studies at the film institute. Career Mitradas' best known films are '' Baalyasakhi'', '' Avakasi'' and '' Pizhaikkum Vazhi''. Kamukara Purushothaman
Kamukara Purushothaman (4 December 1930 – 26 May 1995) was an Indian singer. He was a noted playback singer in Malayalam cinema during its early years. He has recorded over 170 songs in 68 movies in various South Indian languages. Early life Kamukara was born on 4 December 1930 in Thiruvattar in Kanyakumari district of present day Tamil Nadu. He was the son of Parameswara Kurup and Lekshmikkutty Amma. He started learning music from an early age under Karnatic music guru Thiruvattar Arumugham Pillai Bhagavathar, along with his sister, Leela Omchery, a known singer and musicologist. His career debut was at the local temple, Aadi Keshava Temple, Thiruvattar. Adoor Pankajam
Adoor Pankajam (1929 – 26 June 2010) was an Indian actress, in Malayalam movies. She hailed from Adoor in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala state. Mainly, she was a supporting actress and a comedian. Her sister Adoor Bhavani was also a Malayalam cinema actress. Pankajam's most noted performance was in the national award winning film ''Chemmeen'' as "Nalla Pennu". She also did a pivotal role in India's first neo-realistic film '' Newspaper Boy'' (1955). In 2008, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy honoured Pankajam and Bhavani for their overall contributions to theatre and drama. She died at the age of 81 on 26 June 2010. Vishvamitra ( sa, विश्वामित्र, ) is one of the most venerated rishis or sages of ancient India. According to Hindu tradition, he is stated to have written most of the Mandala 3 of the Rigveda, including the Gayatri Mantra. Thirunainar Kurichi Madhavan Nair
Thirunainar Kurichi Madhavan Nair (1916-1965) was an Indian poet, novelist and lyricist. He was also an employee of Travancore Radio Station in Trivandrum, which later got merged with All India Radio. He was very active in Malayalam films from 1951 to 1965 and has written over 300 film songs of which most were hits. Thirunainar Kurichi and music director Brother Lakshmanan were a hit duo during the 1950s and 60s. Thirunainar Kurichi has also written numerous poems dramas and novels in the 1950s and 1960s. Madhavan Nair was born at Thirunainarkurichi town near Velimala Murugan temple, which is around Colachel in Kanyakumari district of the present-day Tamil Nadu.
