Bert Hargrave
Herbert Thomas Hargrave (30 March 1917 – 24 September 1996) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and became a rancher by career. He held a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan in agricultural engineering. Early life Hargrave was born in Medicine Hat in 1917, the sixth child of Thomas Albert Hargrave and Mary Hope Whimster. He received a degree in agricultural engineering from University of Saskatchewan in 1942. During the World War II, he was a captain with the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Political career He represented Alberta's Medicine Hat electoral district where he first won national office in the 1972 federal election. Letitia MacTavish Hargrave
Letitia MacTavish Hargrave ( – 18 September 1854) was a Scottish-born Canadian settler and socialite. The wife of Hudson's Bay Company trader James Hargrave, MacTavish-Hargrave travelled across the Canadian frontier, mainly staying at the York Factory settlement south of Churchill, Manitoba and in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. MacTavish Hargrave is known for a series of written correspondence which detail a female perspective of accounts detailing life in colonial Canada in the 19th century. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, at some point in 1813, Letitia MacTavish Hargrave was born into the wealthy MacTavish clan, known at the time for their dealings with the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). MacTavish met her future husband, James Hargrave, through her brother, William and his career in the HBC. Letitia MacTavish and James Hargrave married in 1839. William Hargrave
Lieutenant General William Hargrave (died 21 January 1751) was a British Army officer and Governor of Gibraltar. Military career Hargrave was commissioned into Viscount Charlemonte's Regiment of Foot in 1694. He fought with his regiment in the Low Countries from 1694 to 1696. In 1702, during the War of the Spanish Succession, he fought at the Battle of Cádiz and the Battle of Vigo Bay; he was also present at the Siege of Barcelona in 1705 and at the Battle of Almansa in 1707. He was also active at the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715 during the Jacobite rising. He was made colonel of the 31st Regiment of Foot in 1730. That same year he was instructed to proceed to Portsmouth and embark with reinforcements for Jersey where the Lieutenant Governor had failed to contain a riot. In 1739 he became Colonel of The Royal Fusiliers just before he became Governor of Gibraltar in 1740. Ryan Hargrave
Ryan Hargrave (born 26 July 1981) is a former Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. He played for the Western Bulldogs. He was a defender who was drafted with pick 66 in the 1999 AFL Draft from the Perth Football Club. Though born in Melbourne, Hargrave's family returned to Perth WA when he was 1 year old. Throughout 2002 he grew and developed as a defender and became an essential part of the Western Bulldogs' defence. In the same year, Hargrave was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award. Hargrave also won the Western Bulldogs' Best First Year Player award in 2002. Hargrave was also selected in the Western Australia State of Origin team of 2005. Richard Hargrave
Richard Hargrave (1 February 1817 – 19 January 1905) was an Australian politician and a pastoralist. Hargrave was born to Joshua Hargrave and Sarah Hargrave (née Lee) on 1 February 1817 at Greenwich, England. His father was a hardware merchant. He arrived in Sydney in 1838 on board the Argyle and went to work on Combelong Station at Monaro for Messrs Hughes and Hosking. The following year he became a partner of the Callendoon Station and the Goondiwini Stations on the Macintyre River. He founded Beeboo and Whylm on the Severn River. In 1843, he lost everything along with his partners following the financial collapse of the New South Wales economy in that year. His merchant father refinanced Hargrave and he was able to purchase at Armidale which he named "Hillgrove Station". He also acquired leases for Bostobrick and Tyringham and Hernani in New England. William McKinley "Pinky" Hargrave (January 31, 1896 – October 3, 1942) was an American baseball catcher. He played professional baseball for 19 years from 1919 to 1937, including 10 years in Major League Baseball with the Washington Senators (1901–60), Washington Senators (1923–1925, 1930–1931), St. Louis Browns (1925–1926), Detroit Tigers (1928–1930), and Boston Braves (baseball), Boston Braves (1932–1933). Early years Hargrave was born in New Haven, Indiana, in 1896. He was the younger brother of Bubbles Hargrave, who was a catcher in the major leagues between 1913 and 1930. Lawrence Hargrave
Lawrence Hargrave, MRAeS, (29 January 18506 July 1915) was a British-born Australian engineer, explorer, astronomer, inventor and aeronautical pioneer. Biography Lawrence Hargrave was born in Greenwich, England, the second son of John Fletcher Hargrave (later Attorney-General of NSW), and was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland, where there is now a building named in his honour. He immigrated to Australia at fifteen years of age with his family, arriving in Sydney on 5 November 1865 on the ''La Hogue''. He accepted a place on the ''Ellesmere'' and circumnavigated Australia. Although he had shown ability in mathematics at his English school he failed the matriculation examination and in 1867 took an engineering apprenticeship with the Australasian Steam Navigation Company in Sydney. Bob Hargrave
Robert Webb Hargrave (May 8, 1920 – July 28, 2014) was an American football player for the University of Notre Dame. As a quarterback for Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana, Hargrave led his team to a record of 32-0-5. At the University of Notre Dame, Hargrave became the starting quarterback for Elmer Layden's final season as head coach in 1940. He would post a 7-2 record and earn Honorable Mention All-American honors. After graduation, he spent four years serving in the United States Navy during World War II. On November 11, 1944, he married Florence Molyneaux in San Francisco, California. Following the war, the couple moved to Florence's home town of Chicago, Illinois, where their first two children were born. In 1948, Hargrave moved his family back to Evansville, where they had five additional children. Hargrave was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame on November 30, 1979.
