Harbiye, Şişli
Harbiye is a neighbourhood of Şişli, Istanbul, Turkey. The neighbourhood takes its name from the ''Mekteb-i Harbiye'' ( Ottoman War Academy) that functioned here for many years, albeit with intervals, in the 19th and 20th centuries. Harbiye is separated from Kurtuluş to the west by busy Cumhuriyet Caddesi (Independence Street). To its north are the upmarket neighbourhoods of Nişantaşı and Teşvikiye, while to its east is leafy Maçka. To its south are the heavily built-up Elmadağ and Taksim neighbourhoods. The nearest Metro station to Harbiye is Osmanbey on the M2 line but many buses and dolmuşes plough up and down Cumhuriyet Caddesi. Attractions Harbiye's most important tourist attraction is the Military Museum (Askeri Müzesi) which is housed in the buildings of the old ''Mekteb-i Harbiye'' ( Ottoman War Academy. Istanbul Congress Center (ICC; tr, İstanbul Kongre Merkezi) is a convention center located at Harbiye neighborhood of Şişli district in Istanbul, Turkey. Opened on October 17, 2009, it is owned by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Situated adjacent to Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage, it is a multi-level complex, which was built to host the 2009 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meeting. The building has a foyer at ground level, several meeting halls in different sizes in five underground levels and car park in the lowest two levels. Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall
The Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall ( tr, Cemal Reşit Rey Konser Salonu) is a concert hall located in the Harbiye neighbourhood of Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the country's major concert halls, being the first one designed for classical music. Named after the Turkish composer Cemal Reşit Rey (1904–1985), the hall is owned by the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul and operated by its subsidiary, the Kültür company. Opened in March 1989, it has a seating capacity of 860. The concert hall hosts concerts, ballet and dance performances every year between October and May. Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage
Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage ( tr, Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Sahnesi) is a theatre venue in the Harbiye neighborhood of Şişli district in Istanbul, Turkey. It is owned by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and operated by its City Theatres (''Şehir Tiyatroları'') division. The theatre is named in honor of the Turkish stage actor and director Muhsin Ertuğrul (1892-1979). The Muhsin Ertuğrul theatre was initially opened in 1964. The old building at the same location was partly demolished to make place for a bigger and modern one. Groundbreaking took place on February 14, 2008. The construction cost 17 million, and the theatre was reopened on January 14, 2010. William Smith (16 September 1817 – 22 December 1891) was a Scottish architect. He was a son of John Smith, also an architect, and his mother was Margaret Grant. Sedad Hakkı Eldem (1908 in Constantinople – 7 September 1988, in Istanbul), was a Turkish architect and one of the pioneers of nationalized modern architecture in Turkey. Biography Eldem was born in Istanbul in 1908. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts department of Architecture.
