Hapoel Afula B.C.
Hapoel Afula ( he, הפועל עפולה) is a basketball club based in Afula, Israel. It currently plays in the Liga Leumit (basketball), Israeli National League. History The club was established in 1968, and was a member of the top division during the 1970s and 1980s. A decline saw the club merge with Hapoel Gilboa to form Hapoel Gilboa/Afula. The merged club played in the top division until 2008, when they were relegated after finishing bottom. Liga Leumit (basketball)
Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second tier level league of basketball competition in Israel. It is the league level that is below the first tier Israeli Basketball Premier League, Israeli Premier League. League system The league contains 15 clubs that compete in a home-and-away Round-robin tournament, round-robin. At the end of the season, the top eight clubs advance to the play-offs. The first round is played on a best-of-three basis. The four winning clubs advance to two best-of-five playoffs, the winners of which are promoted to the Super League. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Jimmy Hall (born April 2, 1994) is a basketball player. He plays the power forward position. He played college basketball for Hofstra University, and for Kent State, where he was All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) First Team for three seasons in a row. He has played most of his professional career in Israel, including for Hapoel Holon of the Israeli Basketball Premier League, and plays for Hapoel Afula of the Israeli National League. David Chalton Ancrum (born June 9, 1958) is an American retired professional and college basketball player. He played college basketball for Utica College. Subsequently, he had a professional basketball career, and played in several leagues, most notably in the CBA, Greece and Israel. He was the top scorer in the 1994 Israel Basketball Premier League.
