Hans Hirtz
Hans Hirtz or Hirtze was a German painter of the late Gothic period, recognized as a major painter by art historians as early as the 16th century. He was active between 1421 and 1463 in Strasbourg and other areas of the Upper Rhine. His years of birth and death are unknown, though a reference to his widow in a document of 1466 shows he died before that date - the document shows that she remarried to the Strasbourg stained-glass artist Peter Hemmel. Master of the Karlsruhe Passion? He may be identifiable with the painter known as the Master of the Karlsruhe Passion, the notname of an outstanding artist of the Late Gothic Upper Rhenish school. Dated to around 1450, six panels from the Karlsruhe Passion are now in the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe and one of the deposition of Christ is now in the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne. The Master of the Drapery Studies (german: Meister der Gewandstudien), also known as Master of the Coburg Roundels (german: Meister der Coburger Rundblätter) is the notname given to the "very productive" and "multifaceted" late 15th-century author of some 30 surviving paintings and over 150 surviving drawings. Indeed, according to the J. Paul Getty Museum, up to 180 surviving drawings "have been attributed to this master, comprising one of the most extensive bodies of drawn work of any northern European artist before Albrecht Dürer." Jost Haller
Jost Haller was a 15th-century Gothic painter from Alsace, active in the years 1440–1470, first established in Strasbourg, then in Metz, and in Saarbrücken. He is also called The painter of the knights (french: Le peintre des chevaliers) ot "The painter of knights", or ''Le peintre de chevaliers'' Haller's name was forgotten until 1980, when art historian Charles Sterling rediscovered it and put it on a number of paintings and illuminated manuscripts that were hitherto attributed to anonymous masters, most famously among them the ''Tempelhof Altarpiece'' (ca. 1445) from Bergheim, Haut-Rhin (not to be confused with the Tempelhof district of Berlin!), an oil on panel painting wide and high, now kept in the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar. Haller is also thought to be the author of the fresco of ''Saint Michael defeating Satan'', high and wide, of St Thomas' Church, Strasbourg. The Staatliche Kunsthalle (State Art Gallery) is an art museum in Karlsruhe, Germany.
