Hannu Kapanen
Hannu Mauri Antero Kapanen (born March 13, 1951, in Kontiolahti, Finland) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played in the SM-liiga. He played for Jokerit and HIFK. He was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005. Hannu Kapanen has also had a long and successful career as head coach in SM-liiga. SM-liiga
The SM-liiga (marketed as just Liiga from 2013 on), (Finnish for ''League'') colloquially called the Finnish Elite League in English or FM-ligan in Swedish, is the top professional ice hockey league in Finland. It is one of the six founding leagues of the Champions Hockey League and currently allocated five spots - the maximum number - based on success in previous editions. It was created in 1975 to replace the SM-sarja, which was fundamentally an amateur league. The SM-liiga is not directly overseen by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, but the league and association have an agreement of cooperation. SM is a common abbreviation for ''Suomen mestaruus'', "Finnish championship". The SM-liiga formerly had a system of automatic promotion and relegation in place between itself and the Mestis, the second highest level of competition in Finland, but the automatic system was ended in 2000. HIFK, the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna, Helsingfors (IFK, Helsingfors) rf (officially abbreviated IFK Helsingfors, colloquially often Helsingfors IFK or Helsingin IFK ) is a multi-sport association based in Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 1897 on the initiative of Georges Doubitsky and fellow students of the Svenska Reallyceum, the Swedish lyceum in Helsinki, it is the oldest continuously-operating Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna (IFK) organization in Finland. HIFK has sections in many sports, including athletics, bandy, bowling, football, ice hockey, and handball. Ted Sator
Ted Sator (born November 18, 1949) is an American professional coach (ice hockey), ice hockey coach. He has twelve seasons of National Hockey League (NHL) coaching experience, serving as an assistant coach for various teams and head coach of the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres. He has also spent time coaching in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL along with coaching in Europe including stints as the Slovenian national ice hockey team, Slovenian and Hungarian national ice hockey team, Hungarian national ice hockey teams. He is a current assistant college ice hockey, men's ice hockey coach at Lindenwood University. Espoo Blues
The Espoo Blues were an ice hockey team in the SM-liiga. They played in Espoo, Finland, at the Espoo Metro Areena. The club went bankrupt at the end of the 2015–16 Liiga season. History The club was established in February 1984 as Kiekko-Espoo and played their first season in 1984–85 in the Finnish Second Division. In 1988, they achieved promotion to the Finnish First Division and in 1992, they celebrated their promotion to the SM-liiga by beating Joensuun Kiekkopojat with a 3–2 series win in a best-of-five format. Tero Lehterä scored the winning goal and Jere Lehtinen assisted. Kiekko-Espoo ended its first two seasons in SM-liiga in 11th place out of 12 teams. In the 1994–95 season, the team made the playoffs for the first time, losing to Lukko in quarter-finals. Timo Lahtinen
Timo Lahtinen (born 24 May 1947) is a retired Finnish ice hockey coach and former forward. Playing career Lahtinen played in the SM-sarja for Ilves and HJK. He also played in Serie A for HC Gherdëina and SG Cortina. Coaching career Lahtinen began his coaching career in 1976 as player-head coach of Tingsryds AIF of Division 1, the second-tier league in Sweden. He also coached Karlskrona IK and HV71 before becoming head coach of Södertälje SK in the Elitserien in 1983. After two seasons with Södertälje, Lahtinen moved to Switzerland and coached EHC Arosa, SC Bern and Zürcher SC over the next four years. He returned to Sweden in 1989 and became head coach of Malmö IF where he coached for five seasons. He returned to Switzerland in 1994 to coach HC Lugano before returning to Sweden once more to coach AIK IF. Curt Lundmark
Curt "Curre" Lundmark (born 9 September 1944) is a Swedish former ice hockey player and manager. Acting as a head coach, he led the Swedish men's national team to a gold medal during the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer. Earlier he'd also assisted Conny Evensson when Sweden won the 1991 IIHF World Championship in Turku and the 1992 IIHF World Championship in Prague. Led by Curt Lundmark, the Swedes also won a silver medal during the 1995 IIHF World Championship in Stockholm, losing the final game against Finland (1-4). Curt Lundmark resigned after that tournament, and was replaced by Kent Forsberg. He has also coached club teams like Västerås IK, HV 71, Jokerit and Leksands IF.
