William Arthur (minister)
William Arthur (3 February 1819 – 21 March 1901) was an Irish Wesleyan Methodist minister and author. Biography Born at Newport, in County Mayo, eight miles from Castlebar, Arthur was educated at Horton College, and at the age of twenty was sent to Goobbee, in Southern India, where he was engaged for several years in missionary work in the Mysore.''The Irish Nation: its history and its biography, Volume 4'' (1876), p. 557-58. While there his progress in the Canarese language is said to have been remarkable; but being threatened with blindness, he was obliged to return to Europe, and was employed for three years in advocating with much ability the Indian missionary work of the Wesleyan Society. Henry Hanford
Henry Hanford (1784–1866) was a farmer and the first Euro-American settler of Lewistown, Ohio, United States. Hanford was born in Norwalk, Connecticut. He emigrated with his brother Thaddeus, who had preceded him to the then new country, to Hamilton County, Ohio in 1806. He settled at Columbia Township, on the Ohio river and was engaged in running a provision boat from Columbia to Natchez. In 1810 Henry Hanford married Harriet Chamberlin, a native of New York. Two years later the young family moved to Champaign County, now Clark County. In January 1834 Henry Hanford purchased of public land (according to the provisions of the Land Act of 1820) in Logan County, Ohio, utilizing the land office at Piqua. Thaddeus Hanford, Jr. (1847–1892) was an American newspaper editor. Hanford was the eldest son of Seattle pioneers Edward and Abby Hanford and the older brother of Cornelius H. Hanford. John Hanford
John Van Hanford III (born c. 1954) was United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom from 2002 to 2009. As ambassador, Hanford led the Office of International Religious Freedom at the United States Department of State. The Office of International Religious Freedom and position of Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom were created under the provisions of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. Harold "Harry" Hanford (9 October 1907 – 1996) was a Welsh footballer who made more than 300 appearances in the Football League playing for Swansea Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Exeter City. He was capped seven times for Wales at senior international level. In the book by Geraint H Jenkins, 'Proud to be a Swan', Hanford is described as "a muscular, lantern-jawed stopper". Despite having been at the club for only a short time, he is a "veteran" of the Swansea City side struggling under the management of James Thomson towards the end of the 1920s. Thomas Hanford (July 22, 1621 – 1693) was a founding settler of Norwalk, Connecticut. He was the first minister in Norwalk, and continued in charge of the settlement's church for forty-one years, until his death in 1693. In addition to his spiritual leadership, he also served as the civic leader and school teacher of the settlement.
