"Hand in Hand" is a song by German band Dune, released in 1996 by Orbit Records as the second single from the group's second album, ''Expedicion'' (1996). The song is produced by Bernd Burhoff and Jens Oettrich, who also co-wrote its lyrics with Oliver Froning. The vocals are performed by Verena von Strenge. "Hand in Hand" was a notable hit in Europe, entering the top 10 in Germany (10) and the Netherlands (7). In Switzerland, it was a top 20 hit (18), while entering the top 40 in Austria (39). The song also charted in Scotland (86) and the UK (77). Its music video was directed by Swedish-based director Matt Broadley. It references the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Dune is a German electronic group known for songs such as "Hardcore Vibes", " Can't Stop Raving", "Are You Ready to Fly" and " Rainbow to the Stars". History The group was founded in 1995 by DJ Oliver Froning and producers Jens Oettrich and Bernd Burhoff (alias Plutone). The band's name was inspired by the science fiction film '' Dune'', based on Frank Herbert's novel of the same name. They released "Hardcore Vibes", a largely instrumental track containing spoken words by Froning's niece, and a cover version of Rozalla's song "Are You Ready to Fly" as their first two singles, followed in mid-1995 by the group's eponymous debut album, released at Urban Records. The Pied Piper of Hamelin (german: der Rattenfänger von Hameln, also known as the Pan Piper or the Rat-Catcher of Hamelin) is the title character of a legend from the town of Hamelin (Hameln), Lower Saxony, Germany. The legend dates back to the Middle Ages, the earliest references describing a piper, dressed in multicolored ("pied") clothing, who was a rat catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe. When the citizens refuse to pay for this service as promised, he retaliates by using his instrument's magical power on their children, leading them away as he had the rats.
