''Han Gong-ju'' () is a 2013 South Korean film written and directed by Lee Su-jin, starring Chun Woo-hee in the title role. It was inspired by the infamous Miryang gang rape case of 2004. The film premiered at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival where it won the CGV Movie Collage Award and the Citizen Reviewers' Award. Lee Su-jin (director)
Lee Su-jin (born 1977) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. His first feature was the award-winning ''Han Gong-ju'' (2014). Career Lee Su-jin was born in Gimcheon in 1977. He began his filmmaking career directing short films, notably ''Papa'' (2004) which received a Korean Film Archive Award at the 30th Seoul Independent Film Festival, and ''Enemy's Apple'' (2007) which won Best Film in the ''A City of Sadness'' section of the 7th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. Lee made his feature film directorial debut with ''Han Gong-ju'', which he also wrote and produced. It premiered at the 18th Busan International Film Festival in 2013, where it received the CGV Movie Collage Award and the Citizen Reviewer's Award. The Director's Cut Awards () is an annual awards ceremony for excellence in film in South Korea. It is presented by the Korea Film Director's Network (KFDN), a group of approximately 300 Korean filmmakers. The KFDN selects winners in the Korean film industry in eight categories: Director, Actor (Male/Female), New Director, New Actor (Male/Female), Producer and Independent Film Director. It was launched in 1998 by film director Lee Hyun-seung with a membership of "young generation" directors in their twenties to forties. Fantasia International Film Festival (also known as Fantasia-fest, FanTasia, and Fant-Asia) is a film festival that has been based mainly in Montreal since its founding in 1996. ''The Fatal Encounter'' (; lit. ''The King's Wrath'') is a 2014 South Korean film based on a real-life assassination attempt on King Jeongjo. Jeongjo is portrayed by Hyun Bin, in his first role in a period drama and first acting project after being discharged from mandatory military service. King Jeongjo (1752-1800) was the 22nd ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, nicknamed the "King of Misfortune." ''Jiseul'' () is a 2012 South Korean war drama film written and directed by Jeju Island native O Muel. The film is shot in black and white with the entire cast composed of local actors speaking their natural dialect. "Jiseul" means "potato" in Jeju dialect. O said he picked it as the title of his film because "potatoes are considered a staple food in many countries, often symbolizing survival and hope." Set during the Jeju Uprising on the island in 1948, O said the film does not focus on the large-scale struggle, but on a forgotten true story about a group of villagers who hid in a cave for 60 days to escape from a military attack.
