Hamrahi (1945 Film)
''Hamrahi'' (), is a List of Bollywood films of 1945, 1945 Hindi social drama film of Cinema of India, Indian Cinema. The film was a bilingual, and was a remake of its popular Bengali version called ''Udayer Pathey'' (1944). Bimal Roy, after working as a cinematographer with New Theatres, Calcutta, launched into feature film direction. ''Udayer Pathey'' was Roy's debut film as a director in Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali films, while ''Hamrahi'' was his first directorial venture in Hindi cinema. The original story and dialogues for Bengali version were written by Jyotirmoy Roy, with the dialogues in Hindi written by Mohanlal Bajpai. Produced by New Theatres, Calcutta, the cinematographer was Bimal Roy. The music direction was by Raichand Boral and the lyrics were by Zakir Husain. The film included Rabindranath Tagore's song, "Jana Gana Mana", even before it became the national anthem of India. Bimal Roy
Bimal Roy (12 July 1909 – 8 January 1966) was an Indian film director. He is particularly noted for his realistic and socialistic films such as ''Do Bigha Zamin'', ''Parineeta (1953 film), Parineeta'', ''Biraj Bahu'', ''Devdas (1955 film), Devdas'', ''Madhumati'', ''Sujata (1959 film), Sujata'', ''Parakh (1960 film), Parakh'' and ''Bandini (1963 film), Bandini'', making him an important director of Bollywood, Hindi cinema. Inspired by Italian neorealism, Italian neo-realistic cinema, he made ''Do Bigha Zamin'' after watching Vittorio De Sica's'' Bicycle Thieves'' (1948). His work is particularly known for his mise en scène which he employed to portray Realism (arts), realism. ''filmindia'' is an Indian monthly magazine covering Indian cinema and published in English language. Started by Baburao Patel in 1935, ''filmindia'' was the first English film periodical to be published from Bombay. The magazine was reportedly run "single-handedly" by Patel, who wielded power through this medium to "make or destroy a film". Its most popular column was "The Editor's Mail" answered by Patel. The magazine featured film news, editorials, studio round-ups, gossip, and reviews of different language films, mainly from Hindi and regional cinema and affiliated reviews from Hollywood. His articles included siding with the lesser known cinema workers like the technicians, extras and stuntmen. Patel met the painter S. M. Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (16 June 1920 – 26 September 1989), known professionally as Hemant Kumar and Hemanta Mukherjee, was a legendary Indian music composer and playback singer who primarily sang in Bengali and Hindi, as well as other Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Tamil, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Sanskrit and Urdu. Ritwik Ghatak
Ritwik Kumar Ghatak (; 4 November 19256 February 1976) was a noted Indian film director, screenwriter, and playwright. Along with prominent contemporary Bengali filmmakers Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha and Mrinal Sen, his cinema is primarily remembered for its meticulous depiction of social reality, partition and feminism. He won the National Film Award's Rajat Kamal Award for Best Story in 1974 for his ''Jukti Takko Aar Gappo'' and Best Director's Award from Bangladesh Cine Journalist's Association for ''Titash Ekti Nadir Naam''.
