Hamilton Thunder
The Hamilton Thunder were a soccer team located in Hamilton, Ontario, playing in the Western Conference of the Canadian Professional Soccer League. The team played its home fixtures at Brian Timmis Stadium until a rent dispute with the city caused home games to be moved to Vaughan midway through the 2005 season. The Thunder won the regular season Western Conference championship each season from 2003 to 2005, but lost in the Rogers Cup semifinal each of those years. History Hamilton Thunder joined the Canadian Professional Soccer League in 2002, which marked the return of professional soccer to the city of Hamilton since the folding of the Hamilton Steelers of the original Canadian Soccer League in 1991. Brian Timmis Stadium
Brian Timmis Stadium was a soccer stadium in Hamilton, Ontario. The stadium was built in 1968, and seated 5,000 people. The stadium most recently hosted association football (soccer) teams Hamilton Croatia, a Canadian Soccer League club, and the Hamilton Avalanche, a club that played in the W-League of the United Soccer Leagues. It was located next to Ivor Wynne Stadium. Named after CFL player Brian Timmis, the stadium also previously hosted soccer teams the Hamilton Steelers and the Hamilton Thunder before the franchises folded. Petar Dajak is a Croatian former footballer who played in the Croatian First Football League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Playing career Dajak played with NK TŠK Topolovac in the Croatian First Football League in 2001-2002, and appeared in seven matches. In 2003, Ivan Marković signed Dajak to a contract to play for the Hamilton Thunder of the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Canadian National Soccer League
The National Soccer League was a soccer league in Canada that existed from 1926 to 1997. Teams were primarily based in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The league was renamed to Canadian National Soccer League in 1993 following the folding of the Canadian Soccer League, and the accepting of the Winnipeg Fury, making the league more national. In the 1960s, the Canadian National Soccer League was one of four major leagues in Canadian soccer alongside the Pacific Coast League, the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League and the Western Canada Soccer League. Dave Simpson (born January 11, 1983 as David Anthony Simpson Knight) is a Canadian retired footballer. Youth career Simpson began his youth career with North Scarborough SC, where he played until he was 17. During his time with NSSC, he earned a trial with Southampton F.C. following an appearance at the Welsh International Super Cup, where he was named the Golden Boot Winner, scoring 14 goals in 5 matches. He then joined the Erin Mills Soccer Club, as part of their Professional Soccer Academy (PSA). In 2001, he travelled to Stuttgart, Germany with PSA, where they played against various teams including against the youth academy of VfB Stuttgart, where he impressed the Stuttgart coach, who got Simpson to play the second half with his team. Sergio De Luca (born September 8, 1982) is a Canadian professional soccer coach and former player. De Luca began his career abroad in Europe, before returning to North America where he had several stints in the USL A-League, Canadian Professional Soccer League and USL Premier Development League. He would later return to Europe to have stints in Hungary, Norway, and Germany before concluding his career primarily in the Canadian Soccer League. Aaron Steele (born 4 February 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender in the Canadian Professional Soccer League, USL A-League, and Premier Development League. Duncan Wilde is an English soccer manager who is currently the manager of Blue Devils FC in League1 Ontario. Managerial career On May 15, 2003 at the Canadian Professional Soccer League press conference the Hamilton Thunder announced Wilde as the new head coach for the 2003 season. After leading the Thunder to a six-game undefeated streak, Wilde resigned from his post as head coach after a team meeting with Hamilton owner Italo Ferrari on July 22, 2003. Vincent Ursini (born September 19, 1960) is a Canadian accountant, former soccer executive, and stage actor. Originally a soccer player Ursini drifted to the administrative duties of soccer. Initially serving at the regional association levels he ultimately was elected to the Ontario Soccer Association board of directors. During his tenure with the Ontario Soccer Association he became involved with the Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL). In 2000, he was named the chairman/president of the CPSL, and firmly established the league within the Ontario soccer structure.
