Hamamatsu International Piano Competition
The Hamamatsu International Piano Competition has been held every 3 years since 1991 in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan, and is open to pianists up to 30 years old. History The Piano Competition was inaugurated in 1991 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of Hamamatsu City on July 1, 1911. The Competition has been a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 1998. Sergei Babayan ( hy, Սերգեյ Բաբայան; born 1 January 1961) is an Armenian-American pianist. Described by ''Le Devoir'' as a "genius", Babayan won many international competitions, including the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition in 1989 and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 1991. He appears as soloist with leading orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester, London Symphony Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, under such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Tugan Sokhiev, Neeme Järvi, Rafael Payare, and David Robertson. Alessio Bax
Alessio Bax (born 1977 in Bari) is an Italian classical pianist. He graduated from the Bari conservatory at the record age of 14. He won the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan at age 19 and the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition in 2000 after first participating in 1993. Bax was a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's CMS Two for three seasons, beginning in 2009. He also received the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2009. He studied at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas with Basque pianist Joaquín Achúcarro. Bax is a Steinway Artist. Alexander Gavrylyuk (born 19 August 1984) is a Ukrainian-born Australian pianist. Career Gavrylyuk's first concert performance was at the age of nine. He moved to Australia at the age of 13. In 1999 he won the Vladimir Horowitz Competition, in 2000 the Hamamatsu Competition and in 2005 the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. Alexander Yevgenyevich Kobrin (Александр Кобрин, born 20 March 1980 in Moscow) is a concert pianist and teacher. At age five, he enrolled in the Gnessin Special School of Music in Moscow where his primary teacher was Tatiana Zelikman. When he turned eighteen, he enrolled at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, as a student of the legendary teacher, Lev Naumov, and he holds a graduate degree from that institution. As a teenager, Kobrin won several youth piano competitions, but he won his first adult competition, the Scottish International Piano Competition when he was 18. Seong-Jin Cho ( ko, 조성진; born May 28, 1994) is a South Korean pianist. He rose to fame within South Korea and the international classical music world in 2015 after winning the XVII International Chopin Piano Competition, becoming the first South Korean pianist to do so. Early life and education Cho was born in Seoul, South Korea. He began playing the piano at a young age and gave his first public recital when he was twelve years old. He graduated from Yewon School. Ilya Rashkovskiy (born 17 November 1984, in Irkutsk) is a Russian pianist. Education Ilya Rashkovskiy debuted with the Irkutsk Chamber Orchestra at the age of eight. He studied from 1993 to 2000 at the Novosibirsk Special School of Music with Prof. M. Lebenzon, from 2000 to 2009 at the Musikhochschule Hannover with Prof. V.
