Halberstadt–Blankenburg Railway
The Halberstadt–Blankenburg railway is a non-electrified, single-track railway line, from Halberstadt via Langenstein and Börnecke to Blankenburg in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The Rübeland Railway connects to the line at Blankenburg (Harz) station. Until 1968, there was a branch to Derenburg. The branch line originally ran to Minsleben. History Construction for the first section of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway (''Halberstadt-Blankenburger Eisenbahn'', HBE) started on 28 July 1870 and the line was opened on 31 March 1873. A siding to the Blankenburg iron works, which was about 3 km-long, was opened on 12 July 1875. Since the operation as a main line incurred large operating expenses, the line was reclassified as a branch line in 1877. Saxony-Anhalt (german: Sachsen-Anhalt ; nds, Sassen-Anholt) is a state of Germany, bordering the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Thuringia and Lower Saxony. The Alstom Coradia LINT is an articulated railcar manufactured by Alstom since 1999, offered in diesel and hydrogen fuel models. The acronym ''LINT'' is short for the German ''"leichter innovativer Nahverkehrstriebwagen"'' (light innovative local transport rail vehicle). It was designed by Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB; acquired 1996 by Alstom) and has been distributed as part of Alstom's Coradia family. DB Class 218
The DB Class 218 (before 1968 the DB Class V 164) are a class of 4-axle, diesel-hydraulic locomotives acquired by the Deutsche Bundesbahn for use on main and secondary lines for both passenger and freight trains. The class represents the final major revision of the DB V 160 family of locomotives; having the preferred features of the antecedent locomotives, including a hydrodynamic brake, and a single engine providing electrical train heating via a generator as well as tractive power. Elbingerode
Elbingerode is an ''Ortsteil'' of Oberharz am Brocken in the Harz district, in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The former town was incorporated into the newly established municipality on 1 January 2010. Geography It is situated in the eastern Harz mountain range, approximately south of neighbouring Wernigerode. The former municipal area comprised Elbingerode proper as well as the villages of Königshütte and Rübeland. The surrounding mountains were the site of numerous ore mines and ironworks, today the Drei Kronen & Ehrt mine and the Büchenberg Pit, run as show mines, are popular tourist destinations. The DR Class V 100 (german: DR-Baureihe V 100), redesignated the Class 110 in 1970, was a four-axled diesel locomotive for medium duties operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (GDR), Deutsche Reichsbahn of East Germany. DR Class 130 Family
The DR 130 family of locomotives comprises the DR Class 130 (''DBAG Class 230''), DR Class 131 (''DBAG Class 231''), DR Class 132 (''DBAG Class 232'' as well as Classes ''233'', ''234'' and ''241'' produced through modifications) and DR Class 142 (''DBAG Class 242''), in USSR locomotive called TE109 (DBAG 230/1/2) and TE129 (DBAG 242). They were produced in the Soviet Union in Luhansk, Ukraine from the 1970s onwards, and were imported into the GDR. After the reunification of Germany the Deutsche Bahn (DBAG) inherited them and continue to make use of them mainly as heavy freight locomotives.
