''Hai-Tang'' is a 1930 British-German drama film directed by Richard Eichberg and Jean Kemm and starring Anna May Wong, Marcel Vibert and Robert Ancelin.St. Pierre p.83 It was made at Elstree Studios as the French-language version of ''The Flame of Love'', which also starred Anna May Wong. A separate German version (''The Road to Dishonour'') was also released. Such multiple-language versions were common during the early years of sound before dubbing became more widespread. ''The Flame of Love'' is a 1930 British drama film, that is a love story between Russian military officer and a Chinese actress. Directed by Richard Eichberg and Walter Summers it stars Anna May Wong and John Longden and has a running time of 74 minutes. This film has also been released under the title ''Road to Dishonour''. It was made at Elstree Studios by British International Pictures. Separate French (''Hai-Tang'') and German-language versions ('' The Road to Dishonour'') of the film were also made and released. Bruno Mondi
Bruno Mondi (30 September 1903, Schwetz, West Prussia – 18 July 1991, Berlin) was a German cameraman and director of photography. Biography Mondi graduated from training in 1918 at the School of Cinema and Technology at the School of Photography in Berlin. Soon after, he worked as an assistant cameraman in numerous silent film productions, including Fritz Lang's ''Destiny'' (''Der müde Tod'', 1921). From 1925 he worked as co-cinematographer with Heinrich Gärtner, and in the comedy film ''Die tolle Lola''. In 1927, he served as executive director of photography. Mondi initially worked primarily with director Richard Eichberg. In 1935, he joined the permanent staff Veit Harlan. In addition to numerous comedies and entertainment films, Mondi also shot some propaganda films, including the anti-Semitic production ''Jud Süß'' (1940). Heinrich Gärtner (cinematographer)
Heinrich Gärtner (1895–1962) was an Austrian cinematographer who worked on over 180 films during his career. He is often credited as Enrique Guerner in his later films. Gärtner was born in Radautz which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but later became Rădăuți in Romania. He entered the German film industry in 1915, and worked prolifically during the silent era. As Gärtner was of Jewish descent, he was forced to flee Germany once the Nazis gained power in 1933. He settled in Spain, where he continued to work following Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War. Gärtner was an influential figure in Spanish cinema, introducing elements of expressionism and training rising filmmakers such as Alfredo Fraile, José F. Hans May
Hans May (11 July 1886 – 1 January 1959) was an Austrian-born composer who went into exile in Britain in 1936 after the Nazis came to power in his homeland, being of Jewish descent. May first gained attention as a composer during the 1920s and 1930s, writing German language songs such as ''Ein Lied geht um die Welt'' ( 1933 ) and ''Es wird im Leben dir mehr genommen als gegeben'' (1936), gaining considerable popularity in Europe through recordings by Joseph Schmidt and Richard Tauber. He also wrote scores for silent movies in Berlin and Paris. Initially most of his work was for short films and musicals, but once in the UK he began scoring full length feature films for the organisations such as Boulting Brothers and Rank/Gainsborough Pictures, most notably '' Thunder Rock'' (1942), ''Madonna of the Seven Moons'' (1945), ''The Wicked Lady'' (1945) and '' Brighton Rock'' (1948).
