Hager Hill (also Hagerhill) is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. Hager Hill is located approximately four miles south of Paintsville, the county seat of Johnson County. History A post office was established in the community in 1903. The origins of the place name Hager Hill (or Hagerhill) are unclear: Some hold it was named for local farmer and minister Daniel Mart Hager, while others believe it was named for the hilltop home of Sam Hager. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 1,780 people, 692 households and 534 families residing in the ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) for Hager Hill's ZIP code. Richard Scott Thomas (December 3, 1925 – July 27, 2013) was an American dancer, educator, and co-founder of the New York School of Ballet along with his wife Barbara Fallis. He is known as a teacher of Eliot Feld and Twyla Tharp. Early life Thomas was born on December 3, 1925, in Paintsville, Kentucky. His father was a coal miner and his mother a nurse. Paintsville High School is a secondary-level school located in Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky and is part of the Paintsville Independent School District. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are statistical entities developed by the United States Census Bureau for tabulating summary statistics. These were introduced with the Census 2000 and continued with the 2010 Census and 5 year American Community Survey data sets. Paintsville () is a home rule-class city along Paint Creek in Johnson County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. The population was 3,459 during the 2010 U.S. Census. History A Paint Lick Station was referred to in military dispatches as early as 1780. The site was named for Indian art painted on the debarked trees near a local salt lick when the first white settlers arrived and was originally part of a tract belonging to George Lewis.
