Hadaftimo
Hadaftimo ( so, Hadaaftimo) is an historic town in the eastern Sanaag region. It is home to several archaeological sites and ancient buildings. There is a Puntland military base. History Hadaftimo is an old town. During the British Somaliland, four settlements were identified in the vicinity: Buraan in the Sool Plateau, El Dahir, Xubeera, Hadaftimo in the Gebi Valley. Around 1990, the Somali National Movement attacked Hadaftimo, a home of the Warsangeli clan, causing a large number of refugees. However, this attack was later condemned by Somali National Movement leaders. In mid-1992, an Islamist militant group Al-Itihaad al-Islamiya (AIAI) moved into the Sanaag region, and the Warsangali clan held a meeting in Hadaftimo and resolved to unify Somalia and prevent the AIAI from entering. Yubbe
Yubbe (also known as Yobe, Yube, Yubeh and Yubbe Tug) is a town in the Sanaag of Somaliland .http://www.maplandia.com/somalia/sanaag/Badhan-Badhan/yube/ There is a Somaliland military base. El Dahir
El Dahir ( so, Ceel-Daahir) formerly known as El Dofar ( so, Ceel Doofaar), is a town in Bari, Somalia region of Puntland state of Somalia, near the border with Somaliland. It often floods during the rainy season because it is the confluence of the wadi from Buraan and from Durdur. History A book about British Somaliland published in England in 1951 mentions it under the name "El Dofar". In April 2020, a stimulant plant Khat was seized in El Dahir and incinerated in the public square. Soldiers who participated in the trafficking were brought to trial, but civilians were only seized and not arrested. In August 2021, the Puntland government announced the construction of a 3,600 cubic meter dam located 2 km northeast from El Dahir. Buraan
Buraan, also known as Hiil Buraan or Hiil Borraan, is a town in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland/ Somalia. It is effectively controlled by Puntland, but it is a disputed area with Somaliland. Overview Buraan is situated in eastern Sanaag, near the Bari region. Along with Las Khorey and Hadaftimo, it is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in the province. During the British colonial period, four settlements, Buraan in the Sool Plateau and Ceel-Doofaa, Xubeera, and Hadaftimo in the Gebi Valley, were identified in this area. Transportation In 2012, the Puntland Highway Authority (PHA) announced a project to connect Buraan and other remote or littoral towns in Puntland to the main regional highway. El Afweyn
El Afweyn ( so, Ceelafweyn, ) is a town in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. El Afweyn is a major historical town in western Sanaag region and sits at the major road connecting the cities of Burao and Erigavo. By road, the town is approximately 283 km east of Burao and 88 km southwest of Erigavo. The town is also the administrative seat of the El Afweyn District. History Isaaq genocide During the Isaaq genocide El Afweyn and its surrounding territory saw over 300 persons be killed in October 1988 in revenge for the death of an army officer who was killed by a landmine laid by the rebel Somali National Movement (or the SNM for short). Bosaso ( so, Boosaaso, ar, بوصاصو), historically known as Bender Cassim is a city in the northeastern Bari province ('' gobol'') of Somalia. It is the seat of the Bosaso District. Located on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden, the municipality serves as the region's commercial capital and is a major seaport within the autonomous Puntland state. Hingalol
Hingalol or Hingalool ( so, Xingalool) is a district located in the Sanaag region of Somalia. Overview Hingalol is situated on the Hadeed Plateau of the Sanaag region. Hingalol was established in 1958. A small hamlet, it increased in size and population in the wake of the Somali Civil War and became a full district. In November 2017, Puntland built a military base on the outskirt of the city. In October 2020, Puntland Minister of Education and Minister of Agriculture visited Hingalol to assess needs and support schools and other institutions in the district. Adeso
Adeso (previously Horn Relief) is Nairobi-based humanitarian non-governmental organization. The organisation was founded by Fatima Jibrell in 1991, who handed leadership over to her daughter Degal Ali in 2006. The organisation is noted for its' use of cash-based programming to support communities in Somalia and Kenya and for its executive director's advocacy efforts around advancing localisation. Maydh (also transliterated as Mait or Meit) (, ) is an ancient port city in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland. History Antiquity According to Augustus Henry Keane, Maydh represents an early center of dispersal of the Somali people. Garadag
Garadag ( so, Gar Adag, ) is a key town in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview Garadag was founded in 1934 and is located northwest of Xudun and east by road from War Idaad. One of the main Landmarks of the town is "Geedka Garadag", a famous tree under which numerous peace meetings or ''shirs'' have taken place over the years. The name ''Garadag'' in the Somali language means "a difficult case", in reference to a marital dispute between two men regarding a girl that was promised to one of the men but married off to the other.
