Hackham Railway Station
Hackham railway station was a railway station on the Willunga railway line serving Hackham, Australia. The station had a raised passenger platform during the passenger transport days of this line. The crossing was protected by flashing lights. South Australian Railways
South Australian Railways (SAR) was the statutory corporation through which the Government of South Australia built and operated railways in South Australia from 1854 until March 1978, when its non-urban railways were incorporated into Australian National, and its Adelaide urban lines were transferred to the State Transport Authority. The SAR had three major rail gauges: 1600 mm (5 ft 3 in); 1435 mm (4 ft in); and 1067 mm (3 ft 6 in). History Colonial period The first railway in South Australia was laid in 1854 between Goolwa and Port Elliot to allow for goods to be transferred between paddle steamers on the Murray River and seagoing vessels. Willunga Railway Line
The Willunga railway line ran through the southern Adelaide suburbs from Adelaide railway station to Willunga, over long (longer than the current Gawler line, ). The line was opened in Willunga by the Governor of South Australia Sir Henry Galway on 20 January 1915, and initially had 16 stopping places between Adelaide and Willunga. It closed beyond Hallett Cove in 1969 and was dismantled in 1972. The Seaford railway line continues from Hallett Cove along a different alignment before rejoining the route of the old line between Seaford Road and Griffiths Drive. The original corridor remains as the long Coast to Vines Rail Trail. There is some evidence of railway track remaining on this trail, notably near the South Road crossing at Hackham, the top of the Seaford Hill and a small section of track in a paddock adjacent to Victor Harbor Road, McLaren Vale. Coast To Vines Rail Trail
The Coast to Vines rail trail is a rail trail in the Australian state of South Australia following the course of the disused Willunga railway line in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. It is open to pedestrians and cyclists, and runs for 34 km from Marino, South Australia, Marino to Willunga, South Australia, Willunga. The northern end of the trail continues from the Marino Rocks Greenway near the Marino Rocks railway station, on The Cove Road. From Marino Rocks it follows the Seaford railway line until Hallett Cove railway station, Hallett Cove station where it shares the footbridge over the line.
