Habanero
The habanero (; ) is a hot variety of chili. Unripe habaneros are green, and they color as they mature. The most common color variants are orange and red, but the fruit may also be white, brown, yellow, green, or purple. Typically, a ripe habanero is long. Habanero chilis are very hot, rated 100,000–350,000 on the Scoville scale. The habanero's heat, flavor and floral aroma make it a popular ingredient in hot sauces and other spicy foods. Name The habanero is named after the Cuban city of ''La Habana'', known in English as Havana, because it used to feature heavily in trading there. (Despite the name, habaneros and other spicy-hot ingredients are rarely ever used in traditional Cuban cooking.) In English, it is sometimes incorrectly spelled ''habañero'' and pronounced , the tilde being added as a hyperforeignism patterned after jalapeño. Origin and use The habanero chili comes from the Amazon, from which it was spread, reaching Mexico. Today, the largest producer of t ...

Sexteto Habanero
The Sexteto Habanero was a Cuban son sextet founded in 1920 in Havana. It played an important part in the early history of the genre, contributing to its popularization all around Cuba. In 1927, the band incorporated a cornet player becoming the Septeto Habanero. Although most original members left in the 1930s, the band has continued to perform and record with different line-ups. Their last album was released in 2010 for their 90th anniversary. History Origins In 1916, tres player and director Ricardo Martínez from Santiago de Cuba founded the Cuarteto Oriental together with Guillermo Castillo ( botija), Gerardo Martínez (lead vocals and claves) and Felipe Neri Cabrera (maracas). In 1917, they left Oriente to record four tracks for Columbia Records in Havana. The songs are listed in a Columbia catalog for 1921, but are probably lost. However, the same group expanded to a sextet in 1918, with Castillo now on guitar, Antonio Bacallao on botija and Óscar Sotolongo on bongos. They ...

Bōkun Habanero
Bōkun Habanero is the brand name of a Japanese snack food. The name means "Tyrant Habanero", a reference to the habanero pepper, which is one of the world's hottest chili peppers. Its name derives from a play on words linking "habanero" with "Tyrant Nero". The snack consists of potato rings, and is moderately spicy by Japanese standards. The package features the brand mascot, Tyrant Habanero, a chili pepper with an evil or maniacal grin. The ''bebiita'' version features his younger sister, and the ''bebinero'' version features a younger version of the regular character. Each 55g packet contains 297.3 calories. Habanero-tan
Habanero-tan () is the unofficial mascot of Bōkun Habanero, the habanero pepper-flavored snacks produced by Tohato. Habanero-tan and her companions with names like "Jalapeño-san" are the personification of spices as cute young girls. They were created by several Japanese amateur artists, and of them, Shigatake, the creator of the character Habanero-tan, drew a series of ''yonkoma'' manga featuring the lives of these girls. Shigatake later became the graphics designer for the Vanillaware games ''Odin Sphere'' and '' GrimGrimoire''. Habanero-tan's popularity has led to various renditions (some of them risque) by other Japanese artists, and even appearances on the OVA '' Netrun-mon''. There is also a ''dōjin'' game called ''Habanero-tan House'' which incorporates many of the things seen in Shigatake's comics. The game's creator, Ashinaga Oji-san, later worked with Shigatake and Vanillaware to develop a similar game called '' Kumatanchi'' for the Nintendo DS The is a handh ...
