Ha Seung-youn
Ha Seung-youn (born May 19, 2000) is a South Korean curler from Uijeongbu. She is the skip of the Chuncheon City Hall curling team. While playing with Kim Min-ji, she won a silver medal at the 2020 World Junior Curling Championships. Career Ha joined Team Kim in 2019. The team lost the final of the 2019 Korean Curling Championships in July 2019 to the Gim Un-chi rink. The team won the Tour Challenge Tier 2 event Grand Slam of Curling event after a strong 9–2 win over Jestyn Murphy. This qualified them for the Canadian Open in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. There, they defeated higher ranked teams such as three time Scotties champion Rachel Homan, 2013 world champion Eve Muirhead and 2020 Scotties champion Kerri Einarson. They made it all the way to the final before losing to the Anna Hasselborg rink in an extra end. Chuncheon Curling Club
Chuncheon (; ; formerly romanized as Chunchŏn; literally ''spring river'') is the capital of Gangwon Province in South Korea. 2021 Korean Curling Championships
The 2021 Korean Curling Championships (branded as the 2021 KB Financial Korean Curling Championships), Korea's national curling championships, were held from June 23 to July 3 at the Gangneung Curling Centre in Gangneung, South Korea. The winning teams on both the men's and women's sides became the Korean National Teams for the 2021–22 curling season. They represented Korea at the 2021 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships, 2022 World Women's Curling Championship, 2022 World Men's Curling Championship and the Olympic Qualification Event in attempts to reach the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. Yorkton is a city located in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. 2020 Canadian Open (curling)
The 2020 Meridian Canadian Open was held from January 14 to 19 at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. It was the fourth Grand Slam event and third "major" of the 2019–20 season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it would end up being the last Grand Slam of the season, and the last Slam to be held until the 2021 Champions Cup held in April 2021. In the men's final, Team Jacobs won their third straight Grand Slam by beating Team Epping in a tight 6–5 game. In the women's final, Team Hasselborg also won her third straight event defeating young Team Kim 7–5 in an extra end. Jestyn Murphy
Jestyn Murphy (born September 21, 1996) is a Canadian curler from Mississauga, Ontario. She currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Career Youth Murphy won the Ontario Bantam championship in 2013, skipping a team out of the Listowel Curling Club. Murphy was a member of the University of Guelph women's curling team. In her first year, Murphy played third for the team, which was skipped by Katelyn Wasylkiw. The team played in the 2015 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, going 3-4. The next season, Murphy skipped the team, and led them to a bronze medal at the 2016 CIS/CCA Curling Championships. Murphy was named then Gryphon Athlete of the Week for the University of Guelph. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. 2019 Tour Challenge
The 2019 KIOTI TRACTOR Tour Challenge was held from November 5 to 10, at the Pictou County Wellness Centre in Westville Road, Nova Scotia. It was the second Grand Slam event of the 2019–20 season. In the men's tier 1 final, Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario defeated Brad Gushue of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador to win his 5th Grand Slam. In the tier 2 final, Korey Dropkin defeated Tanner Horgan to earn a spot at the 2020 Canadian Open in January. Gim Eun-ji also known as Gim Un-chi (born January 23, 1990) is a Korean curler from Gyeonggi-do. She currently skips the Gyeonggi Province curling team. Career Gim played as lead in her first world championship at the 2011 Capital One World Women's Curling Championship along with skip Kim Ji-sun. The team struggled finishing in last place with a 2–9 record. At the 2012 World Women's Curling Championship, South Korea made history by making the playoffs for the first time with a 8–3 record. They defeated Canada to advance to the semifinal, but lost a close game against eventual champions Switzerland. Kim Min-ji (born August 16, 1999) is a South Korean curler. She currently plays third on the Gyeonggi Province curling team skipped by Gim Eun-ji. She is a 2018 Pacific-Asia Curling champion. Career Kim skipped the South Korean junior team at the 2016 World Junior Curling Championships. She led her team of Kim Hye-rin, Yang Tae-i, Oh Su-yun and Lee Ji-young to a bronze medal finish. After finishing the round robin with a 7–2 record, the team lost to Hungary (skipped by Dorottya Palancsa) in the 3 vs. 4 page playoff game, but went on to beat the Hungarians in a re-match in the bronze medal game, after Hungary lost in the semifinal. Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip.
