HMS ''Ouse'' was a Laird type River-class destroyer ordered by the Royal Navy under the 1903 – 1904 Naval Estimates. Named after the , she was the first ship to carry this name in the Royal Navy. Design and construction ''Ouse'' was one of three River-class destroyers ordered from Cammel Laird as part of the 1903–04 construction programme, with 16 River-class ships ordered in total under that programme. The destroyers ordered from Lairds under the 1903–04 programme were repeats of those built by Lairds under the 1901–02 programme and the 1902–03 programme. ''Ouse'' was long overall (o/a) and between perpendiculars (pp), with a beam of and a draught of . Displacement was light and full load. River-class Destroyer
The River-class destroyer (re-designated in 1913 as the E class) was a class of torpedo boat destroyer built for the Royal Navy at the turn of the 20th century, and which saw extensive service in World War I. The class introduced new features to destroyer design, placing a greater emphasis on seakeeping and endurance and less on a high maximum speed in good weather. HMS ''Gala'' was a Yarrow type ordered by the Royal Navy under the 1903 – 1904 Naval Estimates. Named after the Gala Waters in the Scottish Borders area south of Edinburgh, she was the first Royal Navy ship to carry this name. She was launched on 7 January and was accidentally sunk in a collision with the cruiser on 28 April 1908. Construction ''Gala'' was laid down on 1 February 1904 at the Yarrow shipyard at Poplar and launched on 7 January 1905. She was completed in April 1905. Her original armament was to be the same as the Turtleback torpedo boat destroyers that preceded her. HMS Attentive (1904)
HMS ''Attentive'' was one of two scout cruisers built for the Royal Navy during the first decade of the 20th century. Completed in 1905 the ship was placed in reserve until she was commissioned in 1907 as part of the Home Fleet. She then spent the next seven years moving on and off of active service in British waters. The ship sank one destroyer and damaged two others in collisions. ''Attentive'' was assigned to coastal defence duties when the First World War began in 1914, and spent most of the war assigned to the Dover Patrol. She played a minor role in the Zeebrugge Raid in early 1918 and was then assigned to escort convoys to Gibraltar. The ship was sent to the White Sea later in the year to support the unsuccessful North Russia intervention in the Russian Civil War. A sea trial is the testing phase of a watercraft (including boats, ships, and submarines). It is also referred to as a "shakedown cruise" by many naval personnel. It is usually the last phase of construction and takes place on open water, and it can last from a few hours to many days. The displacement or displacement tonnage of a ship is its weight. As the term indicates, it is measured indirectly, using Archimedes' principle, by first calculating the volume of water displaced by the ship, then converting that value into weight. The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel). The draught of the vessel is the maximum depth of any part of the vessel, including appendages such as rudders, propellers and drop keels if deployed. Draft determines the minimum depth of water a ship or boat can safely navigate. The related term air draft is the maximum height of any part of the vessel above the water.
