HMS Active (1758)
HMS ''Active'' was a 28-gun sixth-rate sailing frigate of the Royal Navy, launched in 1758. She was one of the captors of the Spanish ship ''Spanish frigate Hermione, Hermione''. After ''Hermione'' surrendered, her captors found that she carried a large cargo of gold and silver that would lead to the greatest single amount of prize money awarded to the crew of a British warship. On 1 September 1778 the French frigates French frigate Charmante (1777), ''Charmante'' and French frigate Dédaigneuse (1766), ''Dédaigneuse'' captured ''Active'' after a storm had dismasted her. The French Navy took ''Active'' into service under her existing name. She was broken up in 1795. Construction ''Active'' was oak-built, one of 18 vessels forming part of the ''Coventry'' class of frigates. The naval architect Sir Thomas Slade designed the class to the dimensions of , which had been launched in 1756 and was responsible for capturing five French privateers in her first twelve months at sea. ...

Richard Wright (painter)
Richard Wright ( – ) was an English marine painter. An entirely self-taught artist, he first appeared as an exhibitor in London in 1760, and between that date and 1773 exhibited twenty-five works with the Society of Artists of Great Britain, Incorporated Society of Artists and one with the Free Society. Works One of Wright's earliest known works is a picture of the Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas, Liverpool, St Nicholas Church, Liverpool, known as 'The Sailor's Church', and where Wright himself was probably baptised. The scene depicts the church and surrounding buildings viewed across the River Mersey from "Mann Island, Man's Island". It was one of several works originally executed by Wright for his shoemaker. Wright first came to public attention 1762 after when he regularly exhibited at the Society of Artists until 1773.
