HMAS Swan (DE 50)
HMAS ''Swan'' (DE 50), named for the Swan River, was a of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Constructed in Melbourne following the loss of HMAS ''Voyager'', ''Swan'' entered service in 1970. During her career, the ship was deployed to South East Asia on several occasions as part of ANZUK forces. She was modernised in the mid-1980s, then was assigned to the recently opened west coast naval base . Following the integration of women into the RAN, ''Swan'' was the site of sexual harassment and discrimination claims, leading to an Australian Defence Force-wide inquiry. ''Swan'' paid off in 1996, and was sunk as a dive wreck off the coast of Dunsborough, Western Australia at the end of 1997. Construction ''Swan'' and sister ship were ordered in 1964 as replacements for , a destroyer lost following a collision with the aircraft carrier in 1964. Swan River (Western Australia)
The Swan River () is a river in the south west of Western Australia. The river runs through the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia's capital and largest city. Its lower reaches are relatively wide and deep, with few constrictions, while the upper reaches are usually quite narrow and shallow. The Swan River drains the Avon and coastal plain catchments, which have a total area of about . It has three major tributaries, the Avon River, Canning River and Helena River. The latter two have dams (Canning Dam and Mundaring Weir) which provide a sizeable part of the potable water requirements for Perth and the regions surrounding.
