HK Liepāja
HK Liepāja are a Latvian professional ice hockey team that plays in the Optibet Hockey League, the top tier of the sport in Latvia. The team is based in Liepāja and play their home games at the Liepājas Olimpiskā Centra ice hall. History Hokeja Klubs Liepāja was founded in 2014, following the collapse of the previous team in the city; HK Liepājas Metalurgs folded as a result of their title sponsor, Liepājas Metalurgs, pulling funding as a result of financial difficulties steming from the Great Recession. Several months later, the company would declare themselves insolvent. The eight Latvian championships won by won HK Liepājas Metalurgs is, as of February 2021, the most won by any team. HK Liepāja began play in the 2014–15 Latvian Hockey League season and immediately assembled a strong side, finishing 2nd in the regular season before losing in the play-offs semi-finals to HK Kurbads. Liepāja
Liepāja (; liv, Līepõ; see #Names and toponymy, other names) is a state city in western Latvia, located on the Baltic Sea. It is the largest-city in the Kurzeme Planning Region, Kurzeme Region and the third-largest city in the country after Riga and Daugavpils. It is an important ice-free port. The population in 2020 was 68,535 people. Māris Jučers (born June 18, 1987) is a Latvian professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently a free agent having last played for HK Liepāja of the Latvian Hockey Higher League. Between 2007 and 2011 Jučers played for the Latvian club Metalurgs Liepaja which participates in the Belarusian Extraleague. On July 19, 2011, it was announced that Māris has signed a 2-year two-way contract with Dinamo Riga. The Lithuanian Ice Hockey Federation ( lt, Lietuvos ledo ritulio federacija), also known as Hockey Lietuva (LLRF), is the governing body that oversees ice hockey in Lithuania. Lithuania had first joined the International Ice Hockey Federation on February 19, 1938, but was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940. Hockey Punks Vilnius is a professional ice hockey team located in Vilnius, Lithuania, which plays in the Latvian Hockey Higher League, the top tier of ice hockey in Latvia. They play home games at the Pramogų arena. History Hockey Punks Vilnius were founded in 2007 when Lithuanian national team players Šarūnas Kuliešius and Martynas Šlikas started popularising the sport in the capital. HC Everest
HC Everest Kohtla-Järve is an ice hockey team located in Kohtla-Järve, Estonia, and playing in the Coolbet Hokiliiga, the top tier of ice hockey in Estonia. They play home games at the Kohtla-Järve Ice Hall. History HC Everest were founded in 2011, and since 2013 have played, sporadically, in the Meistriliiga. Originally playing under the name of Everest Kohtla-Järve, the team changed their name to HC Everest Kohtla-Järve in 2020. Baltic Hockey League
The Baltic Hockey League ( et, Balti Hokiliiga; lv, Baltijas hokeja līga; lt, Baltijos lygos) is a professional ice hockey competition based in the Baltic states featuring club teams from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The competition was founded in 2018, and the first edition of the competition began in November, 2020. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments.
