HDMS Dronning Marie
HDMS ''Dronning Marie'' was a ship of the line of the Royal Danish Navy. Construction and design ''Dronning Marie'' was built at Holmen, Copenhagen, Nyholm to a design by Andreas Schifter. Construction started in 1821 and was not completed until 1827. She was launched in 1824. ''Dronning Marie'' was 180 feet long, with a beam of 46 feet and a draught of 19 feet. Her complement was 771 men. Her initial gun armament was 84 30-pounder guns. Naval career and fate ''Dronning Marie'' was under the command of Ulrich Anthon Schønheyder on her maiden journey in 1934. Rckersberg asked Harbour Master at Nyholm Søren Ludvig Tuxe for permission to participate on the ship's maiden voyage around Zealand. He and his friend Emil Normann boarded the ship on 5 July. Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg
Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (2 January 1783 – 22 July 1853) was a Danish painter. He was born in Blåkrog in the Southern Jutland region of Denmark. He went on to lay the foundation for the period of art known as the Golden Age of Danish Painting, and is referred to as the "Father of Danish painting". Life Growing up and early training On 2 January 1783, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg was born in Blåkrog in the Duchy of Schleswig (now in Aabenraa Municipality, in the southern part of Jutland in Denmark), to Henrik Vilhelm Eckersberg, a painter and carpenter, and Ingeborg Nielsdatter. Great Belt
The Great Belt ( da, Storebælt, ) is a strait between the major islands of Zealand (''Sjælland'') and Funen (''Fyn'') in Denmark. It is one of the three Danish Straits. Effectively dividing Denmark in two, the Belt was served by the Great Belt ferries from the late 19th century until the islands were connected by the Great Belt Fixed Link in 1997–98. Geography The Great Belt is the largest and most important of the three Danish Straits that connect the Baltic Sea to the Kattegat strait and Atlantic Ocean. Frederikshavn () is a Danish town in Frederikshavn municipality, Region Nordjylland, on the northeast coast of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. Its name translates to "Frederik's harbor". Sprogø
Sprogø () is a small Danish island, located in the Great Belt, the strait that separates the main islands of Funen and Zealand. It is about halfway across the strait, from the Zealand shore and from the Funen shore. Although ''sprog'' is modern Danish for ''speech'', the island's name was recorded originally during the 12th century as ''Sproøe'' meaning ''scout's island'', from the old Danish verb ''spro'' (to scout). Nyborg
Nyborg is a city in central Denmark, located in Nyborg Municipality on the island of Funen and with a population of 17,525 (2022). It is the easternmost settlement on Funen. By road, it is located 34 km east of Odense, 35 km north of Svendborg and 21 km south of Kerteminde. It also connects to Korsør through the Great Belt Bridge. Emil Normann
Emil Wilhelm Normann (18 December 1798 – 21 June 1881) was a Danish painter and naval officer. Biography Normann, who initially developed his painting abilities through his own resources, became a student in Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg's private school in 1825. Despite numerous interruptions including two voyages to the West Indies in 1823 and 1830, Normann and Eckersberg kept in touch. Indeed, it was Normann's corvette that Eckersberg painted in 1827 and in 1834, as they were sailing around Zealand on the maiden voyage of the " Dronning Marie", the two went off in a rowing boat to paint the vessel in the Great Belt.
