Hörsel, Thuringia
is a municipality in the district of Gotha, in Thuringia, Germany. It was named after the river Hörsel, that flows through the municipality. It was formed on 1 December 2011 by the merger of the former municipalities Aspach, Ebenheim, Fröttstädt, Hörselgau, Neufrankenroda, Laucha, Mechterstädt, Metebach, Teutleben, Trügleben and Weingarten. Since March 1994, these municipalities had cooperated in the ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Municipal associations (german: Verwaltungsgemeinschaften) are statutory corporations or public bodies created by statute in the German federal states of Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia, and Schleswig-Holstein. In Baden-Württemberg the term ''stipu ...'' ("collective municipality") Hörsel. This ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft'' was disbanded on 1 December 2011. Neufrankenroda
Neufrankenroda is a district of the rural community of Hörsel in the district of Gotha in Thuringia, Germany. Location Neufrankenroda lies on a long, flat hill, (390 m above sea level) that separates the valley of the Hörsel from the lower lying valley of the Nesse. It is about 7 Kilometers north-west of the town of Gotha. History The rual area and farmland may have been inhabited since pre-historic times. It was first mentioned in a document in 1104. Its name is reminiscent of the Franks, who lived there in the Early Middle Ages. Ownership of the farmlands often changed hands during the Middle Ages. In 1677, Duke Friedrich I of Gotha bought the place from the lords of Erffa and built a country estate. By the late 18th century, the area of Neufrankenroda was formed as a colony to help poor farmers and foresters live a more productive life. Gotha (district)
Gotha (German language, German: ''Landkreis Gotha'') is a Kreis (district) in western central Thuringia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis, Sömmerda (district), Sömmerda, the Kreis-free city Erfurt, Ilm-Kreis, Schmalkalden-Meiningen and the Wartburgkreis. Geography Gotha borders the Thuringian Basin in the north and east, with a low point of about 200 meters (656 feet) in the northern part of the district. Fahner Heights, a muschelkalk ridge with a height of 413 meters (1,355 feet), is located in the extreme north, between the municipalities of Tonna, Germany, Tonna and Bienstädt. The land rises to about 900 meters (2,953 feet) in the Thuringian Forest, which covers the south-western area of the district. The Rennsteig hiking trail follows a ridge line through the forest.
