Héctor Martínez Arteche
Héctor Martínez Arteche (1934 – October 3, 2011) was a Mexican painter and muralist. He was born in Mexico City, but spent most of his life in the state of Sonora. Most of his mural work can be seen in Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregón and Navojoa, totalling more than 4,000 meters squared. These include ''Energía, evolución y movimiento'', ''La evolución mística del hombre venado'', ''El universo del hombre'', ''El pueblo de Cajeme'' and ''Comunicación I''. In addition to this artwork, he has also had a long teaching career, which began in 1948 at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas at UNAM. His best known oils include ''Mujer con violeta'' and ''Mujer con cobalto''. Sonora (), officially Estado Libre y Soberano de Sonora ( en, Free and Sovereign State of Sonora), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the Administrative divisions of Mexico, Federal Entities of Mexico. Cajeme
Cajeme is one of the 72 municipalities of the northwestern state of Sonora, Mexico. It is named after Cajemé, a Yaqui leader. The municipality has an area of 3,312.05 km2 (1,278.79 sq mi) and with a population of 433,050 inhabitants as of 2015. History Yaqui tribes settled in the region at approximately 1100 and in 1533 had the first contact with the Spanish conquistadors, when Diego de Guzmán arrived at the Yaqui region. The Yaquis defeated the Spanish army. In the 17th century Jesuit missionaries visited the zone to evangelize the Yaqui natives in 1617. UNAM
The National Autonomous University of Mexico ( es, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) is a public research university in Mexico.
