Hyperreal (The Shamen Song)
"Hyperreal" is a song by British electronic music group The Shamen. After it was remixed by William Orbit, it was released on 25 March 1991 as the fourth single from their 1990 album ''En-Tact''. A duet between Colin Angus and Plavka, it reached number 29 on the UK Singles Chart, their most successful single before the re-release of "Move Any Mountain" four months later. A remix 12-inch with remixes by Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto was released six weeks after the regular single, on 6 May 1991. In the song, the title is not pronounced the usual way (hyper-real), but as four distinct syllables, with the stress on the second syllable: hy-per-ri-al. The Shamen
The Shamen ( ) were a Scottish psychedelic band, formed in 1985 in Aberdeen, who became a chart-topping British electronic dance music act by the early 1990s. The founding members were Colin Angus, Derek McKenzie and Keith McKenzie. Peter Stephenson joined shortly after to take over on keyboards from Angus. Several other people were later in the band. Angus then teamed up with Will Sinnott, and together they found credibility as pioneers of rock/dance crossover. When rapper Mr. C joined, the band moved on to international commercial success with "Ebeneezer Goode" and their 1992 ''Boss Drum'' album. En-Tact
''En-Tact'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish band the Shamen, released in 1990. It was the first Shamen album to feature Mr C, and the last to feature Will Sinnott (who died on 23 May 1991). It fused the band's past psychedelic rock sounds with the rave act it became, developing a style that represented multicultural dance music. Move Any Mountain
"Move Any Mountain" is a song by Scottish electronic music group the Shamen, first released under the title "Pro›gen". With an official remix by the Beatmasters, the song was re-released in the UK in summer 1991 and was their first top-10 single, reaching number four in the UK Singles Chart. It was included on the band's second album, ''En-Tact'' (1990), and is also their only top-40 hit in the US, where the song peaked at number 38 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in February 1992. Release In response to demand for remixes from fans, the band released the entire sample list and a number of remixes on the album ''Progeny'', which at the time meant the single and album release of the track made it the only record to chart on both UK Singles and Album Charts at the same time. Plavka
Plavka Coleridge ( née Lonich; born March 25, 1974) is an American singer. She is best known for being the singer of the German trance act Jam & Spoon, whose classically infused trance sound dominated the international charts in the mid-1990s, as well as for her previous stint with the Shamen. Biography Plavka is the daughter of a Peruvian mother and Croatian father. At age 21 she moved to London, where she provided female vocals for the seminal British acid house band the Shamen. In the early to mid-1990s, Plavka worked with, and dated, Caspar Pound, producer, composer and owner of Rising High Records. They formed Rising High Collective with producer Peter Smith. Personal life Plavka now lives in Los Angeles. She married Christopher Coleridge in 2006 and they have a daughter. Her younger brother is guitarist Yogi Lonich, who was a member of Buckcherry, Fuel, and Chris Cornell's live band. Jack Dangers (born John Stephen Corrigan, 11 January 1965) is an English electronic musician, DJ, producer, and remixer best known for his work as the primary member of Meat Beat Manifesto. He lives in San Francisco. Career Prior to founding Meat Beat Manifesto together in 1987, Jack Dangers and Jonny Stephens were members of a short-lived group Perennial Divide. While Stephens remained a member for several years, Jack Dangers is the only person credited as a member of the band on every Meat Beat Manifesto release. Meat Beat Manifesto, often shortened as Meat Beat, Manifesto or MBM, is an electronic music group originally consisting of Jack Dangers and Jonny Stephens that was formed in 1987 in Swindon, United Kingdom. ''Volume'' was a magazine in the form of a series of compact disc compilation albums that were published in the UK in the early to mid 1990s. The albums typically contained exclusive tracks and remixes from a diverse range of indie artists. Each album was packaged with a 192-page booklet that contained features on the artists, and original articles. The booklet was the size and shape of a CD jewel case, and was usually packaged with the CD case in a cardboard sleeve. ''Volume One'', the first issue, was published in September 1991. The series came to an end in January 1997, with Volume Seventeen.
