Hymn Of Panathinaikos
The Hymn of Panathinaikos or Syllogos Megalos (''Great Club'') is the anthem of Panathinaikos A.O. It was written in 1958. The music is by Giorgos Mouzakis, a well-known musician and trumpeter of the era, and the lyrics are by George Oikonomidis. Leandros Papathanasiou and the Trio Belcanto and later Giannis Vogiatzis were the singers. According to the composers, the song was written after a winning game of Panathinaikos, while they left together the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium. Oikonomidis improvised the first verse "Syllogos Megalos..." and Mouzakis sketched a staff on a cigarette pack on the spot. The whistling heard in the beginning and end of the hymn imitates the style of "Colonel Bogey March" from the 1957 film ''The Bridge on the River Kwai''. Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos ( el, Παναθηναϊκός Αθλητικός Όμιλος, literally in English: "Panathenaic Athletic Club" or Panathinaikos A.C.), also known simply as Panathinaikós , is a major Greek multi-sport club based in the City of Athens. Panathinaikos is one of the most successful multi-sport club and one of the oldest clubs in Greece. Giorgos Mouzakis
Giorgos Muzakis ( el, Γιώργος Μουζάκης, Athens, 15 August 1922 – 27 August 2005) was a prominent Greek virtuoso trumpeter and music composer. Career Born in Metaxourgeio, Mouzakis performed first as a trumpeter in 1938, recording his first album in 1946. He studied at the Athens Conservatoire (1939–1947) and continued his education in Austria and Germany (1952–1954). Many of his compositions were for the theater. A productive composer with influences from tango, bolero and bossa nova tunes, Mouzakis' opus consists of some 2,500 tunes and songs for over 200 plays, 20 musical comedies, and about 60 films. Leandros Papathanasiou
Leo Leandros (born 23 August 1926) is a Greek musician, composer and producer. Born in Astakos, Greece, Leandros left in the 1950s for Germany to pursue a career in singing and composing. He had some success, but shifted his focus to his daughter, Vicky, who had been singing from a very early age. He became her manager, composer and producer when she was 13, and is responsible for her unique training and career. Under his pseudonym ''Mario Panas'' he was the co-composer (together with Klaus Munro) of '' Après toi'', the winning title of the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, which Vicky performed for Luxembourg. Leandros composed and produced for many other artists such as Julio Iglesias, Demis Roussos, Nana Mouskouri, Ulli Martin, Freddy Quinn and Jairo, among others. Giannis Vogiatzis ( el, Γιάννης Βογιατζής; born 12 June 1927) is a Greek actor. Biography Vogiatzis was born in Aitoliko in Aetolia-Acarnania. He studied at the Dramatic School at the Royal Theatre and for one space at the Industrial Degree. He first appeared in theatre in 1955, immediately after he graduated from the school in the works of William Shakespeare, ''The Merchants In Venice'' at the Dionyssia Theatre (Theater). Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium ( el, Γήπεδο Απόστολος Νικολαΐδης), commonly known as Leoforos Alexandras Stadium or Leoforos Stadium, is a football stadium and multi-sport center in Athens, Greece. It was inaugurated in 1922 and is the oldest football stadium in Greece currently active. The "Colonel Bogey March" is a British march that was composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (1881–1945) (pen name Kenneth J. Alford), a British Army bandmaster who later became the director of music for the Royal Marines at Plymouth. The march is often whistled. Featuring in films since it first appeared in ''The Bridge on the River Kwai'' in 1957, ''Empire'' magazine included the tune in its list of 25 of Cinema's Catchiest Earworms.
