Bruce Hyer
Bruce Tolhurst Hyer (born August 6, 1946) is a Canadian politician, businessman, and ecologist. He is the former deputy leader of the Green Party of Canada and the former Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay—Superior North. Hyer was elected in the 2008 federal election, and re-elected with a wider margin in the 2011 federal election; on both occasions while standing for the New Democratic Party. Early life Hyer was born in Hartford, Connecticut, United States in 1946. He graduated in 1964 from Hall High School, and was a Republican at the time. In Willimantic, Connecticut he worked as a police officer, using his knowledge of Spanish to conduct outreach to the Hispanic community. David Burns Hyer (May 21, 1875 – December 11, 1942) was an American architect who practiced in Charleston, South Carolina and Orlando, Florida during the first half of the twentieth century, designing civic buildings in the Neoclassical Revival and Mediterranean Revival styles. Biography David Burns Hyer was born on May 21, 1875, in Charleston, South Carolina, the youngest son of James S. Hyer and Ella Payne. Martha Hyer (August 10, 1924 – May 31, 2014) was an American actress who played Gwen French in ''Some Came Running'' (1958), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Paul Hyer
Paul Van Hyer (June 2, 1926 – January 22, 2018) was a professor of Chinese History at Brigham Young University (BYU) and the founder of the Asian Studies Program at that institution. He was also a key figure in the growth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Taiwan. Biography Hyer was born in Ogden, Utah. During World War II, Hyer served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre. As a young man Hyer served as an LDS missionary in the Japanese mission located in Hawaii from 1946 to 1948. While in Hawaii, Hyer set up a system to train missionaries in the Japanese language in an organized manner. Hyer received his BA in history from BYU in 1951, followed by an MA in Asian history and Asian Social Institutions from the University of California, Berkeley in 1953 and a Ph.D. in Asian History, also from UC Berkeley, in 1961. Robert Stewart Hyer (October 18, 1860 – May 29, 1929) was an educator and researcher in Texas noted for experimenting with early X-ray and telegraphy equipment. He served as president of Southwestern University before becoming the first president of Southern Methodist University. Hyer Elementary School in University Park, Texas is named in his honor.
