Hutchesons Aloysians
Hutchesons Aloysians RFC was an amateur rugby union club in Glasgow, Scotland. The club no longer exists. In 2002, they merged with Glasgow Southern to form Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians RFC. History Formation The club was founded in 1990 with the merger of Hutcheson's GSFP and Old Aloysians. As a struggling club about to be demoted to Division 7 of the McEwan's National League; the Old Aloysions members approved the merger first. Hutcheson's GSFP were in Division 4 of the National League. Their EGM to approve the merger on 24 May 1990 was won by 57 votes to 8. The new club Hutchesons Aloysians would take Hutcheson's GSFP's place in the league in Division 4 of the McEwan's National League for the coming 1990–91 season. National League Starting in Division 4, the side secured promotion in its first year to Division 3. Glasgow City Sevens
Glasgow City Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held by Cartha Queens Park, in Dumbreck in the south side of Glasgow. The tournament was previously known as the Cartha Sevens and the Cartha Queens Park Sevens. History The first rugby sevens tournament started by Cartha RFC took place in April 1935 and continued for the following two years. After a break around the Second World War period the Sevens were reintroduced in 1950 and in has been played in all the subsequent years. The tournament became known as the Cartha Queens Park Sevens on the merger of Cartha and Queens Park F.P. in 1974. The tournament has been called the Glasgow City Sevens since 2005. Legacy Sevens competition Held around the start of every May, the tournament is part of the Legacy Sevens competition. Fergus Wallace (born 2 February 1965) is a Scottish former rugby union player for Glasgow Rugby, now known as Glasgow Warriors. He played as a flanker. Rugby Union career Amateur career Wallace's playing career straddled the amateur and professional era. He began his club career with Clarkston before moving on to Glasgow High Kelvinside, Boroughmuir, Hamilton and Glasgow Hawks. Provincial career He captained the amateur Glasgow District in season 1989-90 when they famously won the Scottish Inter-District Championship that season, and were unbeaten the entire season, also beating the touring Fiji international side. Glasgow District (rugby Union)
Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. Glasgow Hawks is an amateur rugby union team in Glasgow, Scotland. They were Premiership Division One champions for three consecutive seasons from 2003–04 to 2005–06. History In Paris on 27 August 1995 a meeting of the International Rugby Board declared that professionalism was to be allowed in rugby. At that time there were differing views as to whether districts or Premier clubs in Scotland would become professional. Several Glasgow players decided to move to other teams.
