Husson University
Husson University is a private university in Bangor, Maine. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and as of Fall 2020 had a total enrollment of 3,476 students, including 799 graduate students in master's and doctoral programs. Husson University is one of three universities in the Bangor area (the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Maine are the others) and the only private university in the region. Husson also offers a number of online programs. The university previously operated satellite campuses around the state. The last of these campuses, at Northern Maine Community College, was shuttered in 2021. Students were transitioned to Husson's online programs. History Founded in 1898, Husson was originally named Shaw School of Business and was located on the second floor of a building in downtown Bangor. ''Le Rosier de Madame Husson'' is a novella by Guy de Maupassant, published in 1887. The hero is a young virtuous boy, the equivalent of a Rose Queen. The story was adapted by the English composer Benjamin Britten for his comic opera ''Albert Herring'' with a libretto by Eric Crozier who transposed it entirely to an English setting. Plot Madame Husson, the model of virtue in Gisors, is promoting chastity in her town by seeking to crown a rosière (i.e. Rose Queen, a girl of unimpeachable virtue). However, no girl can stand up to the investigations that take place, and Madame Husson crowns the village idiot, Isidore, as the 'rosier' (Rose King). He uses his reward to "slum it" in Paris. Husson's yellow bat (''Rhogeessa (Rhogeessa) hussoni'') is a species of vesper bat found in Suriname and southern Brazil. Description Husson's yellow bat is primarily distinguished from other species in the genus ''Rhogeessa'' (particularly from '' R. io'' which is also found in Brazil) by its fur colour. Both its ventral and dorsal fur is golden brown with brown tips. Its muzzle is similar to that found in the genus ''Eptesicus'' with more obvious pads than ''R. io''. Cranial measurements including breadth of the upper canines and palate, and the length of the teeth across the maxillary bone were all larger in Husson's yellow bat. Conservation status There have been difficulties capturing vesper bats using the usual methods and problems differentiating the different species within the genus ''Rhogeessa''.
