Huntingburg
Huntingburg is a city in Patoka Township, Dubois County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 6,362 at the 2020 census. Located in southwestern Indiana, the city is known for its downtown with numerous antique shops. It is part of the Jasper Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city is also known as the "Hollywood of the Midwest." The movies '' A League of Their Own'' (1992), '' Hard Rain'' (1998), and the HBO film ''Soul of the Game'' (1996) were filmed in Huntingburg. Columbia Pictures renovated the grandstand at League Stadium that was to become part of the set for ''A League of Their Own''. History Huntingburg was platted in 1837 by Colonel Jacob Geiger who purchased of land and became one of the city's first permanent settlers. It was likely so named because the site had been a popular hunting ground. Huntingburg was incorporated as a town in 1866. Huntingburg Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Huntingburg, Dubois County, Indiana. It encompasses 46 contributing buildings in the central business district of Huntingburg. They were built between about 1871 and 1956 and include notable examples of Italianate and Romanesque Revival style architecture and characterized by cast iron and stamped metal storefronts. Located in the district is the separately listed Huntingburg Town Hall and Fire Engine House. Other notable buildings include the Huntingburg Bank (1897), Huntingburg Post Office (1897), A.H. Huntingburg Town Hall And Fire Engine House
Huntingburg Town Hall and Fire Engine House, also known as Old City Hall, is a historic town hall and fire station located at Huntingburg, Dubois County, Indiana. It was built in 1885–1886, and is a two-story, Victorian style brick building with a gable roof. It features a reconstructed cupola. It was built to serve multiple purposes and housed an opera house on the second floor. The building housed city offices until it was closed in 1971. League Stadium
League Stadium is a baseball stadium in Huntingburg, Indiana, United States, located at 203 South Cherry Street. Originally built in 1894, League Stadium is the home of the Dubois County Bombers of the collegiate summer Ohio Valley League and formerly the Dubois County Dragons of the independent Frontier League. The Southridge Raiders, an Indiana High School Athletic Association 3A baseball team, also use the field. The Dragons moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2003. The ballpark has a capacity of 2,783 people. Dubois County, Indiana
Dubois County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2020, the population was 43,637. The county seat is Jasper. Dubois County is part of the Jasper Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Dubois County was formed on December 20, 1818, from Orange, Pike and Perry counties. It is named for Toussaint Dubois, a Frenchman who fought in the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Tippecanoe and the War of 1812. Dubois was a merchant who lived mainly in Vincennes. He drowned in 1816 while crossing the Little Wabash River near Lawrenceville, Illinois. In 1818, as many as half of the residents of the county died of milk sickness. The plant contains the potent toxin temetrol, which is passed through the milk. The migrants from the East were unfamiliar with the Midwestern plant and its effects. Jasper, Indiana
Jasper is a city in, and the county seat of, Dubois County, Indiana, United States, located along the Patoka River. The population was 16,703 at the 2020 census making it the 48th largest city in Indiana. On November 4, 2007, Dubois County returned to the Eastern Time Zone, after having moved to the Central Time Zone the previous year. Land use in the area is primarily agricultural.
