Spit-take
A spit-take is a comedic technique or reaction in which someone spits a drink, or sometimes food, out of their mouth as a reaction to a surprising or funny statement. An essential part of the spit-take is comedic timing. The person performing the spit-take usually starts drinking or eating right before the punchline is delivered. When the joke hits, the person accentuates the effect by pretending that the alleged humor/shock is so overwhelming and irresistible, he cannot even control the urge of laughter/scream before swallowing, and therefore has to reflexively spit out the mouthful of content to prevent choking. In performance, a spit-take represents a reaction of shock, while in real life it is typically one of mirth. "Spit take" was included in the ''Oxford Dictionaries'' (not to be confused with the ''Oxford English Dictionary'') in a 2014 update. It was also added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary in an April 2019 update. Examples Two characters sit at a table. Character ...

Marco Polo (game)
Marco Polo ( is a form of tag played in a swimming pool. Rules One player is chosen as "it". That player, with closed eyes, tries to find and tag any one of the other players, relying on hearing to find someone to tag. The player who is "it" shouts "Marco" and the other players must all respond by shouting "Polo", which the "it" player uses to try to find them. If a player is tagged, then that player becomes "it". If "it" suspects that a player has left the pool, they can shout, "fish out of water!" and the player who is out of the pool becomes the new "it". The game can also be played on land, with slightly modified rules. It is similar to blind man's buff, where one person is blindfolded while others choose hiding places around the room. While playing one cannot hold another player in place to be tagged or that person is it. History The game shares its name with the 13th-century Italian trader and explorer Marco Polo. There does not appear to be any real connection between ...

Piggy-back (transportation)
Piggyback transportation refers to the transportation of goods where one transportation unit is carried on the back of something else. It is a specialised form of intermodal transportation and combined transport. Etymology ''Piggyback'' is a corruption of ''pickaback'', which is likely to be a folk etymology alteration of ''pick pack'' (1560s), which perhaps is from ''pick'', a dialectal variant of the verb ''pitch''. Examples Rail In rail transport, the practice of carrying trailers or semi-trailers in a train atop a flatcar is referred to as "piggybacking". Early drawings of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway c1830 show road coaches being piggybacked on railway flat wagons. The rail service provided for trucks which are carried on trains for part of their journey is referred to as a rolling road, or rolling highway. A related transportation method is the rail transport of semi-trailers, without road tractors, sometimes referred to as "trailer on flatcar (TOFC)". In ...
