Hunters Point Naval Shipyard
The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard was a United States Navy shipyard in San Francisco, California, located on of waterfront at Hunters Point in the southeast corner of the city. Originally, Hunters Point was a commercial shipyard established in 1870, consisting of two graving docks. It was purchased and built up in the late 19th and early 20th century by the Union Iron Works company, later owned by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Company and named Hunters Point Drydocks, located at Potrero Point. Known as "The World's Greatest Shipping Yard", President Theodore Roosevelt trusted his Great White Fleet of battleships to be serviced at Hunters Point in 1907 according to historical records. The shipyard was purchased by the Navy in 1940, a year before the attack on Pearl Harbor. It began operations the next year as the San Francisco Naval Shipyard, and operated until 1974 when it was deactivated and renamed Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. Long Island City (LIC) is a residential and commercial neighborhood on the extreme western tip of Queens, a borough in New York City. Hunterspoint Avenue is a station on the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road within the City Terminal Zone. It is located at 49th Avenue (formerly Hunters Point Avenue) between 21st Street and Skillman Avenue in the Hunters Point and Long Island City neighborhoods of Queens, New York City. This ground-level station has an island platform between two tracks and is currently not wheelchair accessible from the entrance above the station. The station is served only during weekday rush hours in the peak direction (to Hunterspoint Avenue from Long Island in the morning, from Hunterspoint Avenue to Long Island in the evening). Trains serving here usually run on the Oyster Bay, Montauk, or Port Jefferson Branches. The Hunters Point Avenue station is a station on the IRT Flushing Line of the New York City Subway. Located at 49th Avenue (formerly Hunters Point Avenue) and 21st Street in the intersections of Hunters Point and Long Island City, Queens, it is served by the train at all times and the <7> train during rush hours in the peak direction. History The Flushing Line was extended one stop from Vernon–Jackson Avenues to Hunters Point Avenue on February 15, 1916. The city government took over the IRT's operations on June 12, 1940. The IRT routes were given numbered designations in 1948 with the introduction of "R-type" rolling stock, which contained rollsigns with numbered designations for each service. Hunter's Point is an Indian settlement in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, Canada. It is geographically located within the territory of Témiscamingue Regional County Municipality. Its population was 5 in the 2021 Canadian census. In Algonquin, the place is known as Opacikoteak Ecitacikewapan, which means "village built on high mountains". The community, located on the shores of its namesake lake, is not in an Indian reserve. It is seasonally occupied by members of the Wolf Lake First Nation (registered population, 255) who otherwise live in the Timiskaming and Kebaowek reserves. History Originally the settlement was located south on Hunter Lake. This place was called Hunter's Lodge and had a trading post operated by the Hudson's Bay Company from 1846 on.
