Hunter Hill (politician)
Hunter Hill (born June 23, 1977) is an American Republican Party politician. He represented District 6 of the Georgia State Senate, located in Smyrna, from when he was first sworn into office on January 14, 2013, until he resigned on August 30, 2017 to run for governor. On April 24, 2017, Hill announced his candidacy for governor of Georgia in 2018. He lost the Republican gubernatorial primary on May 22, 2018, coming in third behind Casey Cagle and Brian Kemp. Biography Hill received a B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. After graduating from West Point, Hunter became a Lieutenant in the United States Army. He went on to graduate from the Airborne, the Air Assault, and the U.S. Army Ranger Schools. Doug Stoner
Doug Stoner, a member of the Democratic Party, is a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, a former member of the Georgia State Senate, and a former candidate to be chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party. He ran in the 2018 Democratic primary for District 5's seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission, which is currently held by a Republican, Tricia Pridemore. Ranger School
The United States Army Ranger School is a 62-day small unit tactics and leadership course that develops functional skills directly related to units whose mission is to engage the enemy in close combat and direct fire battles. Ranger training was established in September 1950 at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Ranger course has changed little since its inception. Until recently, it was an eight-week course divided into three phases. The course is now 61 days in duration and divided into three phases as follows: Benning Phase, Mountain Phase, and Swamp Phase. Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold ( Brandt (1994), p. 4June 14, 1801) was an American military officer who served during the Revolutionary War. He fought with distinction for the American Continental Army and rose to the rank of major general before defecting to the British side of the conflict in 1780. General George Washington had given him his fullest trust and had placed him in command of West Point in New York. Arnold was planning to surrender the fort there to British forces, but the plot was discovered in September 1780, whereupon he fled to the British lines. In the later part of the conflict, Arnold was commissioned as a brigadier general in the British Army, and placed in command of the American Legion. He led the British army in battle against the soldiers whom he had once commanded, after which his name became synonymous with treason and betrayal in the United States. Michael Williams is an American politician and businessman. He served as a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate from Senate District 27, covering the majority of Forsyth County. He was also a candidate for Governor of Georgia, but was defeated in the 2018 primary. First elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2014, Williams defeated longtime Republican incumbent State Senator Jack Murphy in a runoff election. Williams won the race with 66% of the vote to Murphy's 34%. Williams largely self-funded his campaign, contributing over $300,000 of his own money toward the race. John Nathan Deal (born August 25, 1942) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 82nd governor of Georgia from 2011 to 2019. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party in 1992 and switched to the Republican Party in 1995. On March 1, 2010, Deal announced his resignation from Congress to run for Governor of Georgia. Eric Greitens
Eric Robert Greitens (; born April 10, 1974) is a former American politician who was the 56th governor of Missouri from January 2017 until his resignation in June 2018 amid allegations of sexual assault and campaign finance impropriety. Born and raised in St. Louis, Greitens graduated from Duke University in 1996 and received a doctorate from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, as a Rhodes scholar in 2000. 2018 Georgia Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, concurrently with other statewide and local elections to elect the next governor of the U.S. state of Georgia. Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp won the election, defeating Democratic former State Representative Stacey Abrams. The primary elections were held on May 22, 2018, and a primary runoff was held on July 24, 2018, between Republican candidates Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle; Kemp prevailed.
