Hunter Eagles
The Hunter Eagles were formed for the ABL 1994-95 season after purchasing the Sydney Wave's licence, who had left the league two seasons earlier. The Eagles played in the ABL until the ABL 1997-98 season, and did not have sufficient funds to remain in operation. A ~1998 proposal to redevelop the Cardiff Sports Centre in Ada St, Cardiff never came to fruition. The Hunter Eagles expected to return to ABL competition after the completion of the new Gosford stadium in 1999, But with the collapse of the ABL it did not eventuate. The Australian Baseball League (ABL) was a baseball league, established in 1987 and disbanded in 1999. Formation Before the formation of the Australian Baseball League, the Claxton Shield, established in , was Australia's premier baseball tournament. The idea of an Australian baseball league was first conceived in , possibly prompted by the success of Australia's National Basketball League Australia, National Basketball League. The final Claxton Shield competition was held in 1988 by the Auburn Baseball Club in New South Wales at its home ground of Oriole Park (Sydney), Oriole Park. Auburn funded all visiting teams' fares and accommodation with the expectation of recouping from gate takings and increased revenue at its social club. Newcastle International Sports Centre, known as McDonald Jones Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose sports stadium located in Newcastle, Australia. The Sydney Wave were formed after the first Australian Baseball League championship purchasing the Sydney Metros licence. The Wave had a bit more luck then the Metros lasting a further two seasons, both at different stadiums before disbanding due to not having a lit stadium and sold their licence to the Hunter Eagles. Central Coast Stadium (known originally as Grahame Park), known commercially as Industree Group Stadium is a sports venue in Gosford, on the Central Coast, New South Wales, Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The stadium is home to the Central Coast Mariners FC, Central Coast Mariners association football club which competes in the A-League. The stadium also hosts rugby league and rugby union fixtures on an ad hoc basis as well as other major social events. The Australian Baseball League (ABL) is a professional baseball league in Australia. The league is governed by the Australian Baseball Federation (ABF). It uses the same name as a now-defunct competition held during the 1990s, and though it shares some history of the original league with the Claxton Shield awarded to winners of both competitions, it is considered to be a separate competition.
