Hungry Ghost Ritual
''Hungry Ghost Ritual'' (盂蘭神功) is a 2014 Hong Kong-Malaysian horror thriller film directed by Nick Cheung. The film was released on 10 July 2014 in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Synopsis After incurring debts from his failed business venture in China, Zong Hua (Cheung) returns to Malaysia after a decade's hiatus. The demoralised Zong Hua faces problems finding a job and tries hard to get used to things at home, including his estranged relationship with his step-father, Xiaotian, who runs a Cantonese opera troupe, and half-sister, Jing Jing (Cathryn Lee). Jing Jing is hostile towards Zong Hua as she always has the impression that the death of their mother was caused by the excessive fights between Zong Hua and his step-father. Nick Cheung
Nick Cheung Ka-fai (; born 2 December 1964) is a Hong Kong actor, singer and director. Background He was formerly a Royal Hong Kong Police officer for four years, but he left the job after his request to be transferred to the criminal investigation department was turned down. He then worked for Danny Lee's film production company. His film debut is ''"Thank you, Sir!"'', as a student at the Royal Hong Kong Cadet School. From 1989 to 1994, he worked at the television station ATV World. Later, he left ATV and joined another station, TVB. He left TVB in 2004, and worked mainly on films. His fame was built on Wong Jing's comedy at first, but he has changed his acting style for more sombre roles since 2003. He was nominated for his first Hong Kong film award in 1999, and won his first award in 2009 for his role in ''Beast Stalker''. Annie Liu Sum-yau ( zh, 劉心悠; born 1 April 1981) is a Hong Kong-based Taiwanese actress. Background Liu was born in Taiwan but was sent to Vancouver, Canada to study at a young age by her parents. In 2004, Liu was selected to feature in a TV commercial of China Airlines, the largest airline and flag carrier of Taiwan. Before starting her acting career in 2005, Liu studied industrial design at Vancouver's Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Liu debuted as the female lead in the 2005 star-studded film, '' Mob Sister'', and earned a Best New Performer nomination at the 25th Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance.
