Hungary At The 2014 Winter Olympics
Hungary competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from 7 to 23 February 2014. A team of 16 athletes competing in five sports were selected to the team. Before the Games began, the Hungarian Olympic Committee received a threatening letter which warned of an attack on its athletes at the Games. It was dismissed as not being credible. Alpine skiing According to the quota allocation released on 20 January 2014, Hungary had three athletes in qualification position. Edit Miklós's 7th-place finish in the women's downhill set a new record as the highest placing alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics for the country. As for Anna Berecz, she was remarked for being one of the few, along Tina Maze and Macarena Simari Birkner, to complete all the five races in which she competed. Anna Berecz (4 September 1988, in Budapest) is a female skier from Hungary. She took part in the alpine skiing events at the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics. She has also competed in the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009. In the 2010 Winter Olympics, Berecz competed in the women's downhill, coming 35, super combined, 27, super-G, where she failed to finish, slalom, 45, and giant slalom, 42. Emőke Szőcs
Emőke Szőcs (born 20 October 1985) is a Hungarian professional biathlonist. Szőcs, who is ethnic Hungarian, was born in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania. She has been a member of the Romanian biathlon team since 2002 and achieved her best result in the Biathlon World Cup The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 for women. Károly Gombos
Károly Gombos (born 3 October 1981, in Budapest) is a Hungarian cross-country skier and biathlete. Brief biography Károly made his maiden appearance in biathlon in 2005. The event that motivated him to this sport cannot be better explained than his own words: "The first time I saw biathlon on television with English commentary, it pleased me at once. I later watched a race in Slovakia with guys skiing with a pair of narrow skis in a dense forest, and it became clear this sport was made for me." Competing in international racing, he represented Hungary for the first time in the World Cup(Ostersund). He has been coached by: Edes Janos (personal), Brigitta Bereczki (national). Károly studied horticulture, wine science from Corvinus University of Budapest. He is engaged in business and runs a holiday home in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria.
