Hungarian Pavilion
The Hungarian pavilion houses Hungary's national representation during the Venice Biennale arts festivals. Background Organization and building Hungary has been a participant of the Venice Biennial right from its beginnings in 1895. After the Italian and the Belgian, the Hungarian national pavilion was the third to be built at the Giardini. Designed by Géza Rintel Maróti, 1909 (restored by Agost Benkhard, 1958, and György Csete 1998-2000). The Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art took over the Venice selection process from 2015. The Hungarian pavilion was designed in 1906 by artist-architect Géza Rintel Maróti and built through 1909. The building is influenced by Hungarian architecture and art traditions. It was twice restored: in 1958 by Ágost Benkhard, who added a courtyard and a flat roof, and in 1991–2000 by Gyorgy Csete. Biennale (), Italian language, Italian for "biennial" or "every other year", is any event that happens every two years. It is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions. As such the term was popularised by Venice Biennale, which was first held in 1895. Since the 1990s, the terms "biennale" and "biennial" have been interchangeably used in a more generic way - to signify a large-scale international survey show of contemporary art that recurs at regular intervals but not necessarily biannual (such as triennials, Documenta, Skulptur Projekte Münster). The ''International Herald Tribune'' (''IHT'') was a daily English-language newspaper published in Paris, France for international English-speaking readers. It had the aim of becoming "the world's first global newspaper" and could fairly be said to have met that goal. It published under the name ''International Herald Tribune'' from 1967 to 2013. Tamás Waliczky
Tamás Waliczky (born in 1959, in Budapest, Hungary), is a Hungarian artist and animator, known for his new media art. Biography Tamás Waliczky started out by creating cartoon films (1968–1983), whilst working as a painter, illustrator and photographer. He began working with computers in 1983. He was artist-in-residence at the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM) in 1992, and subsequently a member of the Institute's research staff (1993–1997). Later taking up a guest professorship at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar (HBK Saar) in Saarbrücken (1997–2002). Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in Gifu, Japan, chose Waliczky as artist-in-residence for 1998 to 1999. Péter Forgács
Péter Forgács (born 1950) is a media artist and independent filmmaker based in Budapest, Hungary. He is best known for his "Private Hungary" series of award winning films based on home movies from the 1930s and 1960s, which document ordinary lives that were soon to be ruptured by an extraordinary historical trauma that occurs off screen. Imre Varga
Imre Varga (1 November 1923 – 9 December 2019) was a Hungarian sculptor, painter, designer and graphic artist. He was regarded as one of Hungary's most important living artists, and he has been called one of the "most skilled sculptors in Hungary."
