Hung On You
Hung On You was a London fashion boutique, run by the designer Michael Rainey, particularly known for flowery shirts and kipper ties in bold colours. Rainey's customers included the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks and the actor Terence Stamp. The shop opened at 22 Cale Street, London, with a mural by Michael English. It later relocated to 430 King's Road, Chelsea. Regular customers included Sir Mark Palmer, and the models from his male modelling agency ''English Boy''. Rainey sold the lease to the boutique in 1969 to Tommy Roberts and Trevor Myles, and it became Mr Freedom. His then wife, Jane Ormsby Gore, in a 2006 interview with the Victoria & Albert Museum, said: "Michael made the most gigantic mistake of leaving Cale Street and going onto the King's Road. He felt that it was happening on the King's Road, but it cost a lot of money to move, and people didn't know where we were. It became less successful then. Sir Charles Mark Palmer, 5th Baronet (born 21 November 1941) is a British aristocrat, who formed one of the first modelling agencies devoted to the male image, and later adopted an alternative lifestyle, travelling around Britain in a horse-drawn caravan. Mr Freedom (fashion)
Mr Freedom was a clothing boutique in London which sold fashion by a number of young designers commissioned by the owner, designer Tommy Roberts, and his partner, Trevor Myles. Celebrities such as Freddie Mercury and Didi Kempot wore designs from the shop which was at 430 King's Road in Chelsea, London from 1969–70 and then at 20 Kensington Church Street in Kensington 1945. History Mr Freedom was part of the counter-culture " Swinging London" scene around King's Road in 1960s' London. It followed the cult success of Roberts' earlier boutique, Kleptomania, which he had opened in 1965. Roberts bought the lease to the King's Road boutique, at number 430, in 1969 from Michael Rainey, who had owned another boutique with a cult following at that location, Hung On You. Thomas Steven Roberts (6 February 1942 – 10 December 2012) was an English designer and fashion entrepreneur who operated prominent independent retail outlets including pop art boutique, Mr Freedom, and the 1980s decorative arts and homewares store, Practical Styling. Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles.
