Hundvåg is a borough of the city of Stavanger which lies in the southwestern part of the large municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The borough includes a number of islands lying to the north of the main city centre of Stavanger. It includes the islands of Hundvåg, Sølyst, Grasholmen, Engøy, Buøy, Bjørnøy, Roaldsøy, and Ormøy. These islands are all connected together by bridges and they are connected to mainland Stavanger by the Stavanger City Bridge. The borough has a population (2015) of 13,217. Hundvåg (island)
Hundvåg is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the centre of the city of Stavanger, separated by the Byfjorden. The island is relatively flat and very urbanized. There were 9803 residents of the island in 2014. There are some agricultural areas as well as a lot of industry. The small island of Buøy is connected to the south side of Hundvåg by a small man-made isthmus. Hundvåg Church is located on the island. Transportation Hundvåg is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges connecting the islands of Buøy to Engøy to Sølyst to Grasholmen and then over the Stavanger City Bridge to the mainland of the city. Hundvåg Church ( no, Hundvåg kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Hundvåg in the borough of Hundvåg in the northeastern part of the city of Stavanger. It is the church for the Hundvåg parish which is part of the Stavanger domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The red brick church was built in a rectangular design in 1983 using designs by the architects Knut and Ingeborg Hoem. The church seats about 540 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1300, but it was likely built in the mid-1100s. The first church on Hundvåg island was built at Austbø, about east of the present site of the church. The church was probably a small Romanesque stone church. The Hundvåg Tunnel ( no, Hundvågtunnelen) is a road tunnel in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The long tunnel is located on the Norwegian National Road 13 highway. The tunnel goes under the Byfjorden and it connects the mainland of the city of Stavanger and the island of Hundvåg. The tunnel is part of the Ryfast tunnel network that opened in 2019. The western end of the tunnel connects to the Eiganes Tunnel in the city of Stavanger. Near the eastern end of the tunnel, there is an exit to the island of Buøy as well.
