The Hundred of Hoo Academy (formerly The Hundred of Hoo School) is a 4–18 mixed, all-through school and sixth form with academy status in Hoo St Werburgh, Kent, England. It is part of the Leigh Academies Trust. History In June 2008, it was announced the school was one of forty schools in Kent and Medway ordered to meet the Government target of 30 percent achieving five or more GCSE A* to C grades, including English and Maths within three years, or face closure; the school achieved 22 percent in 2007. In June 2009, the school was placed into special measures following an inspection by Ofsted. This led to the resignation of its principal Tony Williams, and Gary Holden, head of Rochester Math School became executive head of both schools. A new governing body was appointed to "handle all governance matters and provide strategic direction for the school". Hoo St Werburgh
Hoo St Werburgh, commonly known as Hoo, is a large village and civil parish in the Medway district of Kent, England. It is one of several villages on the Hoo Peninsula to bear the name ''Hoo'', a Saxon word believed to mean "spur of land" or to refer to the "distinct heel-shape of the ridge of hills" through the settlement. Hoo features in Domesday Book, and had a population of 7,356 at the 2001 census, rising to 8,945 at the 2011 census. The civil parish includes Chattenden to the west. History St Werburgh was the daughter of King Wulfhere of Mercia, and niece of King Æthelred, his brother and successor. She was born between 640 and 650. The first church of Hoo may have been built in the reign of the 8th-century King Æthelbald of Mercia, though presumably a monastery existed nearby at an earlier time. International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an educational programme managed by the International Baccalaureate (IB) for students in grades Kindergarten to Fifth grade. While the programme prepares students for the IB Middle Years Programme, it is not a prerequisite for it. The Education Act 2011 (c. 21) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was the first major piece of education legislation to be introduced by the coalition government, and makes changes to many areas of educational policy, including the power of school staff to discipline students, the manner in which newly trained teachers are supervised, the regulation of qualifications, the administration of local authority maintained schools, academies, the provision of post-16 education, including vocational apprenticeships, and student finance for higher education. Key Stage 5 is a label used to describe the two years of education for students aged 16–18, or at sixth form, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, aligning with previous Key Stages as labelled for the National Curriculum.
