Cazneaux Tree
The Cazneaux Tree, also known as Cazneaux's Tree, is a ''Eucalyptus camaldulensis'' or river red gum that was made famous by the photographer Harold Cazneaux. It is in the Australian state of South Australia in the locality of Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Flinders Ranges near Wilpena Pound. The tree is located within the boundaries of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park on the west side of the Flinders Ranges Way about north-east of the Wilpena Pound Resort. The tree was listed by the National Trust of South Australia as significant tree number 239 on the trust's Register of Significant Trees because of "its outstanding aesthetic beauty". The tree was photographed in 1937 by Cazneaux in a picture entitled ''The Spirit of Endurance'' which brought him international recognition. The District Council of Hawker was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1997, centred on the town of Hawker. At its creation it was the northernmost local government area in the state. History It was established on 5 January 1888 under the provisions of the ''District Councils Act 1887''. It comprised the hundreds of Arkaba in the County of Hanson, Barndioota and Wonoka in the County of Blachford, and Wirreanda and Yednalue in the County of Granville. Land from each of the hundreds of Adams and Warcowie was added to the District Council on 12 May 1932. In 1936, it was reported to have an estimated population of 975 across an area of 300 square miles. In that year, the council elected a member from five wards, one for each of the initial hundreds. The main industry of the district was wool growing, replacing wheat farming, which had been popular in earlier days. St Mary Peak
__NOTOC__ St Mary Peak / Ngarri Mudlanha is a mountain located in the Australian state of South Australia on the northwestern side of Ikara. It is the highest peak in the Flinders Ranges and the eighth highest peak in South Australia, with a height of . It is located within the Ikara–Flinders Ranges National Park and the gazetted locality of Flinders Ranges, South Australia. It was for a time known as "St Mary's Peak", but was renamed according to guidelines deprecating the use of names implying possession. The Adnyamathanha people have expressed concern with tourists trekking to the peak as they regard it as a sacred place and not to be visited. However, the peak and its surroundings may be accessed via a walking trail from Wilpena Resort along the north-east edge of the range outside of Ikara, or via a longer trail through the middle of the pound. Wilpena Pound – also known by its Adnyamathanha language, Adnyamathanha name of Ikara, meaning "meeting place" – is a natural amphitheatre of mountains located north of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia in the heart of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Blinman, South Australia
Blinman is a locality incorporating two towns located in the Australian state of South Australia within the Flinders Ranges about north of the state capital of Adelaide. It is very small but has the claim of being the highest surveyed town in South Australia. It serves as a base for large acre pastoralists and tourism. The town is just north of the Flinders Ranges National Park, is 60 kilometres north of Wilpena Pound. History Indigenous people This land belonged to the Adnyamathanha tribe, of Indigenous Australians prior to colonisation. Flinders Ranges Way (route B83) is the main road route through the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. It starts from the Augusta Highway at Stirling North, 6 km southeast of Port Augusta.
