Humåtak, Guam
Humåtak (formerly Umatac) is a village on the southwestern coast of the United States territory of Guam. The month of March in the Chamorro language is "Umatalaf," or "to catch guatafi," which is believed to be the root word of Umatac. The village's population has decreased since the island's 2010 census, and it is by far the least populated village on the island. Mount Bolanos, at an elevation of , is the 3rd highest peak of Guam and lies away. History Prior to Spanish arrival on the island, an annual celebration was held north of the village at Fouha Rock where the first humans were created according to the legends of the Chamorro people, the native people of Guam. Malesso' (formerly Merizo) is the southernmost village in the United States territory of Guam. Cocos Island (Chamorro: Islan Dåno) is a part of the municipality. The village's population has decreased since the island's 2010 census. Malesso' is the closest populated place in the United States to the equator. Fort San Jose
Fort San Jose is a former Spanish fortification on the island of Guam, now a United States territory. It is located north of the village of Umatac, on a hill overlooking both Fouha Bay and Umatac Bay, the place were Spanish galleons traveling between Manila in the Spanish Philippines and Acapulco, Mexico stopped for water and supplies. History The fort was built about 1802 under the administration of Vicente Blanco, Governor of the Marianas.
