Human Hearts (film)
''Human Hearts'' is a 1922 American silent rural drama film directed by King Baggot, and produced and distributed by the Universal Film Manufacturing Company. It stars House Peters. It is based on a play of the same name by Hal Reid. Plot As described in a film magazine, Tom Logan (Peters), an assistant to his father Paul (Simpson) in his blacksmith shop, falls in love with Barbara Kaye (Hallor), a notorious character who plans to fleece him. Against his father's wishes, Tom marries her and they have a child. Jay Benton (Wallace), a former friend of Barbara's, is released from prison and comes to see Barbara. Tom's father finds them together, and there is a scuffle and a shot and Paul Logan is killed. Jimmy (Hackathorne), Tom's half-wit brother, runs to the village and spreads the news that Tom has killed his own father. Tom is sentenced and convicted to a life sentence. King Baggot
William King Baggot (November 7, 1879 – July 11, 1948) was an American actor, film director and screenwriter. He was an internationally famous movie star of the silent film era. The first individually publicized leading man in America, Baggot was referred to as "King of the Movies," "The Most Photographed Man in the World" and "The Man Whose Face Is As Familiar As The Man In The Moon." Baggot appeared in over 300 motion pictures from 1909 to 1947; wrote 18 screenplays; and directed 45 movies from 1912 to 1928, including '' The Lie'' (1912), '' Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman'' (1925) and ''The House of Scandal'' (1928). He also directed William S. Hart in his most famous western, ''Tumbleweeds'' (1925). Among his film appearances, he was best known for ''The Scarlet Letter'' (1911), '' Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' (1913), and '' Ivanhoe'' (1913), which was filmed on location in Wales. George Hackathorne
George Hackathorne (February 13, 1896 – June 25, 1940) was an American actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1916 and 1939. Hackathorne was born and educated in Pendleton, Oregon. Despite his mother's wishes that he get a college education, he chose to be an actor. He began his career as a child actor in stock theater, after which he performed in vaudeville. He and his brother had a dramatic act that toured the United States. On June 25, 1940, Hackathorne died in Hollywood, California, at age 44. He was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Wilton Taylor (1869 – January 24, 1925) was an American stage and silent screen actor. He usually played gruff men of authority like wardens, judges or the police commissioner in Tod Browning's '' Outside the Law'' (1920). Of some other surviving silent he can be seen in Houdini's '' Terror Island'' (1920). Prior to entering films he spent some years on the stage and appeared as a police inspector in the original 1912 Broadway production of '' Within the Law'' starring Jane Cowl. Emmett Carleton King (May 31, 1865 – April 21, 1953) was an American actor of the stage and screen. Biography King began his acting career on stage. His first Broadway appearance was in 1899, in the farce, ''The Father of His Country'', which he wrote and starred in. He would appear in several more Broadway productions over the next 15 years, including ''Mary Jane's Pa'' in 1908–09, and the 1911 production of Ben-Hur. His screen career was mostly as a character actor, and spanned both the silent and sound film eras. Snitz Edwards (born Edward Neumann, 1 January 1868 – 1 May 1937) was a stage and character actor of the early years of the silent film era into the 1930s. Biography Born into a Jewish household on New Year's Day 1868 in Budapest, Hungary (then part of the Austro-Hungarian empire), Edwards immigrated to the United States and became a successful Broadway stage actor during the early twentieth century. His first show was the musical comedy ''Little Red Riding Hood'', which opened on January 8, 1900. He often appeared in the first decade of the 20th century on Broadway in productions for such prominent stage directors as Arthur Hammerstein and Charles Frohman. He traveled with touring companies across the United States and in South America.
