Hugo Pfaltz
Hugo Menzel Pfaltz Jr. (September 23, 1931 – August 31, 2019) was an American Republican Party (United States), Republican Party politician who served two terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Newark, Pfaltz graduated from Millburn High School. He is a graduate of Hamilton College (New York), Hamilton College and Harvard Law School, and served in the United States Navy Reserve. Pfaltz lived in Summit, New Jersey and practiced law there. He was elected to the Assembly in 1967, running on a ticket with former Assemblyman Peter McDonough; they defeated former Assemblywoman Irene Griffin and Kenneth White. Pfaltz beat White by 812 votes. In the General Election, McDonough and Pfaltz defeated Democrats George Perselay and Joseph Gannon by wide margins. The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. New Jersey General Assembly
The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature. Since the election of 1967 (1968 Session), the Assembly has consisted of 80 members. Two members are elected from each of New Jersey's 40 legislative districts for a term of two years, each representing districts with average populations of 232,225 (2020 figures), with deviation in each district not exceeding 3.21% above and below that average. To be eligible to run, a potential candidate must be at least 21 years of age, and must have lived in their district for at least one year prior to the election, and have lived in the state of New Jersey for two years. Irene Griffin
Irene T. Griffin (July 25, 1899 – April 1983) was an American Republican Party politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly. She served one year in the Legislature, but became a bit of a perennial candidate, losing three races for the Assembly, two for the Senate, and one for Congress. Griffin first ran for the State Assembly in 1942, but lost the Republican primary to future U.S. Senator Clifford P. Case, future State Senator Kenneth Hand, and two others. When Case ran for Congress in 1944, Griffin ran again and won the nomination and the election. She did run for a second term in 1945, but sought the Republican nomination for State Senator in 1947, losing to hand in the primary. She ran again for Assembly in 1951, but lost the primary to incumbent Florence P. Dwyer.
