Hugo Matthysen
Hugo Matthysen (born 30 January 1956, in Ekeren) is a Belgian (Flemish) singer, guitarist, columnist, writer, Master in Philosophy and actor. He lives in the municipality of Hove in Antwerp. Biography In 1978, he played with Bart Peeters and Jan Leyers in the coverband Beri-Beri. In 1984, he regularly appeared with Bart Peeters and Marcel Vanthilt in Peeters' programme Villa Tempo as "De Hermannen". De Hermannen were three people with sunglasses, blonde wedge and wearing black jackets with a white sweater beneath, with which they intentionally looked like the German singer Heino. They played absurd sketches. Matthysen then also started to write for the magazine HUMO, for which he would create several columns. He also founded a humouristic rock band, named "Hugo Matthysen en De Bomen", and in 1989 he delivered weekly contributions to the absurd programme Lava by Kamagurka and Herr Seele. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. Kulderzipken
Kulderzipken is a Flemish television series that premiered in 1995. Two seasons of ten episodes each have been made since then. The final episode aired in 1996. Concept Once upon a time there was, in country far, far, far away, a king called Jozef (Jan Decleir), and his wife, queen Angina ( Karine Tanghe). King Jozef thought the time was right for his daughter, princess Prieeltje (Ianka Fleerackers), to get married and king Jozef set up a special contest. The first young man to pull the three golden hairs out of Mother Devil's head got the chance to marry the princess. The contest was won by Kulderzipken (Michael Pas), a simple country lad. An all-female band is a musical group in popular music that is exclusively composed of female musicians. This is distinct from a girl group, in which the female members are solely vocalists, though this terminology is not universally followed. The Clement Peerens Explosition, or CPeX, is a Belgian parody rock group, created by Hugo Matthysen, Bart Peeters and Ronny Mosuse. History During the early 1990s, Matthysen played the fictional character "Clement Peerens" on the comedy radio show Het Leugenpaleis and its televised successor, Het Peulengaleis. Peerens was portrayed as a self-proclaimed " pop expert", recounting ever-more outrageous anecdotes about current and past rock stars which were little more than drunken ramblings. As the character's popularity grew, it was decided to spin off an actual rock band, which began performing in 1994 and went on to release four albums. The last of these went on sale in 2000 and the band's performances became sporadic. In 2008, CPeX released a best-of album featuring some new material and began playing live again in a modified line-up, as Bart Peeters was forced to withdraw from the band for medical reasons. Rock Werchter
Rock Werchter is an annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, Belgium, since 1976 and is a large sized rock music festival. The 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2014 festivals received the Arthur award for ''best festival in the world'' at the International Live Music Conference (ILMC). It can host 88,000 guests daily, of which 67,500 combine all four days, to add up to a total maximum of 149,500 different attendees. The festival started in 1974 as a one-day event with performances from Banzai and Kandahar, but over the years it has evolved to become one of Belgium's largest music festivals. Originally it was a double-festival, called "Torhout-Werchter", with two festival areas at different sites in Belgium: one in Werchter and one in Torhout. Zwarte Piet (; lb, Schwaarze Péiter, fy, Swarte Pyt), also known in English by the translated name Black Pete, is the companion of Saint Nicholas ( nl, Sinterklaas, fy, Sinteklaas, lb, Kleeschen) in the folklore of the Low Countries. The earliest known illustration of the character comes from an 1850 book by Amsterdam schoolteacher Jan Schenkman in which he was depicted as a black Moor from Spain. Those portraying the traditional version of Zwarte Piet usually put on blackface and colourful Renaissance attire in addition to curly wigs and bright red lipstick.
